So a while ago, I had an idea... WORMHOLE TRACTOR BEAM

Not sure if this ever made it out via myself or by anyone else's brain, but....

Would it be a bad and good thing, if you had a web or a module, tractor beam.... that was fittable to larger ships only, that could SUCK another larger ship only, into the wh, when the one offending target jumps. Provided a range to the wh is satisfied, this tractor beam would be used for carriers, dreads, or battleships too.... for wh activity.

This would be an interestingly horrible way to experience being force closed out of your wh, or make you think twice before warping big ships close to the wh... etc...

food for thought? ofc there'd be a timer for the tractor, many other mechanics maybe to control its uses, but the general idea....

wouldn't it be cool to suck your target into a trap on home side... or wouldn't it SUCK to get sucked in a wh by force when in a fight? you'd loose your bhaalgorn or carrier... it'd separate your fleet... key ships only... etc etc?

I think it would take certain power requirements, or energy to create to suck the ship in with you when you jump...

ideally, when i lock you, and tractor you... so if i jump, you jump too.... :)

yea i dont see frigs or dessies, or even command ships using this... but maybe battleship hulls or capital vessels.

oh so you meant larger+

back to my original comment then

so can i now get 4 caps in or 6? what happens if i have 10 carriers all using this on each other and one jumps?

Interesting point! Perhaps, the mass limits of wh would still apply, only so much mass can go thru any given wh at one time, AND once a certain amount of mass has passed thru the wh, it will reduce in its stages as is. When you have ten caps on either side say, or a given situation where multiple ships fit this module to their ships and are all intending on approaching a wh with their target grappled with them, ... :P Im seeing something creative like, dragging your target in range of the wh to pull him in... :) the same laws apply. It would be a matter of who jumps first... and if the mass would allow. Would this ship collapse the wh? would that one? Are we adding mass from both vessels in one jump?

Problems I never really thought of... but Im sure there's ways to make them work, IF the over all idea was grasped and thought to have potential use in the game. :)

I was wondering, myself about the mass limits... and being larger ships... yea... the added mass. But thing is science fiction can come into play if the idea is sounded. Umm what I mean is, "Some strange affect has occurred to your ship. Such heavy gravitational waves are forcing your ship into a collision path with the wormhole. You are getting dangerously close to getting pulled through."

and the module it self, could be like, "This amazing technology allows the mass of the targets ship to be cancelled by "standalone" gravitational waves" , thus allowing your mass to NOT be added to the jump calculator.

I do hope this does not displease Bob as I would never intend to do such a thing...

not a fan of this idea at all.
infact, the more i try to fit it in, the more i kinda think its wack..lol
sorry.

it might only be used 3 or 4 times ever.
so, one person jumps their cap through a wh to tractor another back into a gate camp? whats to stop the tractored pilot form jumping back out? the original ship couldnt jump out and bring it back sue to polarization, and the victim couldnt be drug back through by another ship for the same reason.

well ya know, its a pretty bad ass thing to sit and think about doing to someone... in a small engagement, a trap, could pull someone thru a nearly VOC wh and have it collapse behind them... and trap them with no where to go. Pirate

Try to force way too much through the wormhole, everybody gets podded?
