Hey guys,
I've tried EVE on and off for the last year or so, never getting very far. I've started a new character and am starting from the ground up. Big smile

I'll be studying from the Eve University and online tutorials for what to do around EVE. I think I'm leaning more towards a mining / trading profession.

More about me,
Name's Albert. I have a degree in information systems management and work for a company that specializes in the manufacturing of space exploration technologies.

You'll see me around the forums and around Caldari space primarily (too scared to go into low and nulsec right now haha)

Thanks,

Welcome aboard buddy.
Try not to tank your faction standing and if you get borde mining ... Stop.
Key skill drop there mate, should get you into a corp in short order if its aplicable to eve in some way (is it?)

Personally im a house dad of twins , which probably explains why i hunt my fellow player with malice and abbandon.

Ralph- Better that then abandoning the twins!

By the way, Dingis, welcome!

Please don't feel you have to try to 'get' EVE on your own. While I too was something of a soloist at first, you are already in a great resource for information and assistance (the forums) and you have already had contact with one of the most knowledgeable people around here (Ralph KG).

I'd find a corp that does the kind of activity you think you might want to do and ask the members about it and how they like it. Many corps are very newbie friendly. Some aren't but in HiSec it's usually the friendly sorts. Join one that appeals to you and learn from them.

EVE University isn't a bad corp to join either, but they are ALWAYS under War Declaration so don't wander out from under their umbrella until you can deal with fights. They have good players and pretty much the best teaching resources in the game right now.

Oh im hardly that, i just offer more time and patience for answering inane questions about obscure and odd mechanics than i probably should,
to be fair most of the ncq&a regulars are veritable tombs of game knowledge for our respective play styles,
mine being that of a mercenary up untill recently.

I am not sure why people feel the need to start a new character evey time that they try this game again but welcome aboard.

If you left the game on previous attempts make sure that you try something different this time.

There is a saying attributed to Einstein something about doing the same thing and expecting different results being the definition of insanity.

If you're going to mine, there's a group who will threaten you and tell you have to pay for a 'license' to mine
You don't need one and you can ignore them, but this means they will try to blow you up
they only operate in a few small areas so you can mostly avoid them by mining in more fun & interesting areas

set the filters and find decent spots to mine in

before you get into trading, spend some time looking at the different tabs on the market
the history graphs especially

Sometimes logging back in with the character you tried previously just puts you back into the same rut as last time, even if you intend to do something entirely different. People are creatures of habit after all. Creating a fresh alt gives a better feeling of a truly fresh start, at least that's how I view it.

OP, welcome back to eve, If you have questions around the industrial side of things I'd be happy to help. I can offer advice on PVP but honestly I suck and its just amusing to watch myself die in fire so take anything I say about pvp with about 50lbs of salt, maybe more.

I agree with this - Logging into my old character sort of made me fall into the same rut I was experiencing before. I'll be going out and trying something new with a new character in hopes things will turn out differently. I have the feeling EVE can be a game I play for a long time once I get over the steep learning curve associated with it.

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

I'll be around the forums asking questions / looking for answers. I should also be lurking around the subreddit and definitely around the game. I have a few hours a night to kill usually Smile

Hello Albert and welcome to eve. I am also a new player and i must tell you that the community here is ( so far ) amazing and scary at the same time. Both exciting sides actually. Very helpful but at the same time friendly and dangerous. Lol
By dangerous i mean fraud theft etc. everything you could expect in ... Real life ... In space.. RollTwisted

Welcome back!

New Eden is filled with opportunities, you just need an open eye to spot them. Try different things, set yourself not too hard goals, and don't be afraid of not being perfect in something at the beginning or even later. Diversity of options you can pick from if you get bored with one thing is more important than becoming the top professional in some activity IMO. It's a game you should have fun with what you are doing.

I'm my own NPC alt.
