Show my sell price compared to sell orders instead of buy orders.

Can I modify the 'sell multiple items' screen to show me the price difference between the price I could currently sell at (highest buy order price) and the LOWEST SELL ORDER price. This would allow me to determine if I should sell to the buy order, or if I should create a sell order.

That is usually the biggest decision I face when selling items.

Right now when I sell an item, I see that it gives me a little red or green arrow telling me whether or not the price I'm selling at is a good deal or a bad deal, as compared to other regional 'buy order' prices. This calculation could be useful, if you were committed to accepting an existing buy order. But we aren't committed to that, we have the option to create a sell order. So THATS what decision I need help making, should I sell now, or should I create a sell order.

I currently have a years worth of mission loot that I'm trying to sift through and sell, and I keep running into items with big green arrows saying "200% above regional average", only to find out that the buy orders are crazy underpriced and the smartest play is to create a sell order.

Any help is appreciated.

Coming from other games this seems simple at first glance. However the Eve market is much deeper and more complex than most if not all other MMOs.

What you are trying to do here is a big part of the game. We've all had to do it before and some tough decisions have to be made about how much time you are willing to invest in making these decisions.

For me I had to just get to know which items are worth selling. So what I have done in the past is pull out all damage controls and sort through ammo to see which I know sells well and then sort everything by meta and sort through stuff meta 4 and up and then pretty much melt everything else. By "melt" I mean scrap metal reprocessing.

With the recent changes to damage controls I don't even know if this decision is right any more.

When you do go into the scrap metal reprocessing UI it will show items that you might not want to melt with a yellow exclamation mark in a caution sign. So that is another way to help find items worth selling.

However I manufacture stuff so I loot more for the minerals than anything else.

There is no setting for that, for the single sell box or for the multi-sell box.

As far as I know, we do it by right-clicking on individual items and "show market details" to see prices, then right-clicking again and "sell this item" to either sell directly or to set up a sell order.

The multi-sell window is a convenience (less clicking), and thus it has built-in downsides (it assumes you're going to accept the current buy orders because you're supposedly in a hurry).

EDIT: Also, the smartest play may be to reprocess the item into minerals and sell those. Because some loot is truly junk and nobody will buy it (that's why the market average is underpriced).

I've been playing this game since 2009 and I don't know how CCP figures the market values. When I started a lot of that stuff did not even exist. They added on various aspects over the years.

My main point on this post is that I've had to find a quick easy way to turn loot into either isk or minerals that I can use. Not trying to get the absolute best price on everything and making some assumptions so as to not spend weeks just selling stuff is a decision that I made.

Worth noting is that since everyone does this to varying degrees that creates a market opportunity. If you can find something that is significantly undervalued from what the minerals that it would reprocess into are worth you can put up buy orders in areas that those loot items are likely to drop as mission loot. Then you can reprocess them and sell the minerals yourself.

Of course this involves some hauling or contracting a hauler to do the space trucking for you. Of course that creates another business opportunity.

This is worth repeating. Eve rewards those who make an extra effort. Any convenience option will have a built-in penalty.

Autopilot. super convient. Penalty, slower and more exposed.
warp-to-zero. Faster. Penalty, must be present to play, there is some variablity in landing spot.
insta-dock . Faster, safest. Penalty, must personally set up bookmark beforehand.

I don't think that's an argument for having the UI needlessly hide useful data; I think the OP's suggestion is a useful one. Mind you, if I were them, with a year's mission loot, I'd dump it all on Pro Synergy and let them take their 10%.

I don't think that the UI is hiding useful data. I think it is more like what Memphis said:

The group sell is there for when you are in a hurry and don't care so much about price. If you care about price then group sell is not the tool that you are looking for. If they made group sell more complicated it would kind of defeat the purpose of it being a quick easy and simple way to sell a lot of junk fast.

If you sorted through all of your junk and removed what was worth keeping or selling and then pulled up to jita with only junk and hit group sell you'd be pissed if it was overly and needlessly complicated.

I was once in the exact position of the OP having over a years worth of mission loot to sort through. At the time Pro Synergy did not exist. I spent a week sorting through and selling and melting loot trying to figure out what to sell and what to keep and what to melt before I just gave up and melted what was left. After that when I realized that I could have made much more isk in that week running missions than sorting through loot I cared a lot less about getting top dollar.

I agree with you that Pro Synergy is probably a great option. Also my suggestion to use the reprocessing window to sort out what is valuable and melting the rest I feel is a decent option also. However regional averages outside the Forge are not all that reliable especially on junk items. Even in the forge with a years worth of loot you will have some odd ball junk items that don't get traded much and have skewed regional averages.

Bottom line for me is that regional averages are not a good reference for anything and certainly not for fringe junk loot items. The only thing that I use the regional average comparison for is to double check and make sure that I did not misplace a decimal, i.e. if I am off by a 3 or 4 digit percentage I re-check my numbers. That is really only useful when I am entering an isk amount and to me has not place in a group sell.

I know that I touched on this earlier but you can sort in the inventory UI by meta.

Meta 0 items that are used in T2 production are usually worth more than reprocessing value at a market hub.

It used to be that most Meta 4 items were worth selling. Some Meta 3 items were and most Meta 1 & 2 items were not.

I know CCP changed the Meta around so I'm not sure if this still applies. I do know that prop mods don't fit into that currently.

Meta sorting used to be a great way to sift through loot. Maybe someone else can comment as to how good it is now.

I personally melt almost everything with few exceptions.

I have inventory filters for expected item value, which makes an excellent first step. Moderate value items can then be sorted by quantity to find out if I have a lot of something. Of course, in stuff I deal in regularly I don't really have to look.

Personally I just set a cut-off point, say, anything that appears to be worth more than 1 million, will be individually investigated.

Then, items in the 100k-900k range, I kinda memorize them by category of item, because some can recycle to good minerals (smartbombs, for example) while others are semi-desirable for use as medium meta items (some of the weapon versions, for example).

Everything under 100k I just reprocess, because even with market skills trained to various levels, I still only have a limited number of sale slots, and otherwise everything that's cheap is only being purchased because of mineral value anyway. We don't have THAT many newbies in-game.

(As you may know) a lot of salvage - and some other things - will go for immediate sale in trade hubs at a decent price - the spread is very small. Might as well cash in on those because they don't need sell slots.
