Paper models...

once upon a time in the old threads some one made a few eve online paper models. i believe a rifter, a heron and apoc. well that was long ago and after many years i decided i want to make more for your entertainment. ill start with a caldari shuttle and and work my way around. ive made paper models for many years, but never could extract the eve ships correctly until ArrowNathan WAKE helped me out in a major way.

so ill post a build thread here and once done ill post a link to download the PDF so you can build ur own ship.
so here are our steps

1. model
2.skin model
3. break into build sections
4. unwrap model into flat plane
5. print on card stock and and test build to ensure fit
6. create instructions
7. PDF package and release.

so here were @ step 3

ill probably make it to 5 by this weekend. i hope you guys enjoy this are interested in building your own ships. i know its just a shuttle, but have patience with me! we will get bigger and meaner ships goin.

by the way, how big should i make this ship? 4 inches? 6 inches? 8 inches? rember the smaller it is the harder it is to build the tiny sections. also the bigger it is the easier it is to add LEDS and fiber optics. ( if thats your thing)

I love stuff like this. Used to kitbash Gunpla myself until I ran out of freetime.

I would say, since the shuttle is never going to scale with the other models, you might as well do a nice large & detailed build as PoC. I very much look forward to seeing your progress.

1:1 scale!

I wouldn't go any bigger than 10-12 inches, but bigger is better. Stuff can always be scaled down by anyone who wants smaller things.

wel keep in mind the textures are limited to 1024x1024 so to big and the skins look like *****

There are ways to manually "extend" textures beyond their indended resolution and also keep them looking good. I suck at photoediting though, so I can't help much there. It would be interesting to see what people can come up with without the textures as well. "Paint your own Rifter" Big smile

Like this idea as well. Could palette swap existing texture or modify/create your own. Nice one-of-a-kind souvenir for the desk in one's office.

good concept, however my unfolding process would render any skins pointless. i can however make it a "white" version you can paint your own. ill include a white and a textured version in the package
unfolding has started, lil rough but ill have it probly printed tonight and ready for test builds

Great idea and even though I am not into actual making models (paper or whateva) I always admire creativity and like to see a results.

Awesome, I recall having seen something like this before and it is an incredible thing. My Google Fu is too weak to find the site that has all the video game papercraft stuff on it, but I did find this:

Maelstrrom
Vexor

And a couple of handy guides. See here and here. Hope those can be of use to you, D4rk f0g!
