A Better Flight Option

I have been playing EVE since launch off and on. Don't let the new account fool you. Since it's been a few years since I last played, I thought I would give this a go again.

Over all I have found that the new changes have been good if not great. But the one thing I do not like AT ALL is the flight outside of Auto Pilot and Warping In/Out of Belts.

As a long time flyer of all kinds of craft, this weird and very unncessarily complex flight system is horrid. I tried to replace my keybindings only to have to replace yet more keybindings and still do not have the option to use my mouse or, heaven's forbid, joystick, for better control. You know, to fly naturally.

Using the arrow keys and number pad for flight control, then having to reach back over to the Fkeys to activate weapons is silly. Using a simple WASD motion with mouse control to pitch forward or back is the more gamer friendly choice. Even adding joystick control would be even better.

The Flight Academy is great and all, but if you are into the larger PvP battles and use these silly flight ocntrols, it will get you killed. Using the more accepted WASD/Mouse or Joystick configuration would be better overall to every player and not just to PvP players. PvP flyers would be able to better control their ships. Not only would this give better dogfights, but it would make for more exciting gameplay overall, especially for those that stream the battles.

PvE flyers would be able to better control the pitch and yaw while approaching cargos or salvaging wrecks. Or just doing the odd flyby of other players or stations for some Epic recording sessions or streams.

It's been just over 11 years since I started playing this game and I was expecting, after my 5 year hiatus, that these controls would be implemented. Instead, we have been given this broken and ineffective flight system.

Please, CCP, fix this flight system.

Flight control with mouse clicks beats joystick or WASD by a long shot simply because it is more accurate and you do not need to sit inside your ship to control your ship precisely, which enables you to observe the battlefield and not just things directly ahead of you.
I do not see how giving up so much control and information gathering on the battlefield could be outweighed by being able to do funny curls and waves.

If you really must use WASD, EVE already has these controls in the game for months now. You should read up on that, there are dev blogs and the hot keys are assigned to the arrow keys by default (as far as I remember).

accurate piloting is illogical in this game and they keep advertising it like you can weave in and out of shots being fired at you

this game is either it hits you or it doesn't and only a few factors go against that one of which doesn't measure into weaving like they show....lets face it the ships they show in the vids weaving through tons of fire aren't the ones being fired at...

Well, actually...you can. You just need to know how.

I agree, the manual piloting is wierd and unintuitive. It would be much better if it played like a flight sim, where you rolled the ship and then pulled back to start turning. However, since the actual mechanics of the game are just spheres in space, I have a feeling it may be easy said than done to change it.

Natural flying, just for the fun of it at least, would be nice to have.

The thing I've always hated most about EVE is the stupid bumping mechanic. With ships doing all sorts of stupid jostling and rolling when you get too close to them.

It not only looks and feels dumb, it's a dumb mechanic for fights and for general griefing.

Try to fight in a fleet fight in first person view or third person view locked behind your ship with WASD. Then come back and tell us your experience.

WASD isn't natural flying.

And by 'for the fun of it' I don't mean for use in PvP, but for RP activities and just out enjoying the space environment (particularly around other ships and objects). Assuming the bump mechanic is altered.
