MWD Cloak and Big Ships

Hi guys,

I'm a relatively new player (couple of months), and I know that there is lots of stuff that I don't know/understand yet.
I know how MWD+Cloak trick works, and I have done it successfully many many times; and by successfully I mean, that I warped out immediately after deactivating cloak module.

So what is my question than? Well, I have managed to perform mwd+cloak trick on smaller ships, but can't quite get it on my Mastodon..:( After decloaking, it still takes quite a few seconds to speed up my ship enough to enter warp.

At first I thought that maybe somehow I do something wrong, so AGAIN I watched video guides explaining the topic (just to reassure myself that I follow every step correctly). After some time spent on googlin' and reading, I have found this on uniwiki:
"You can use the same MWD trick to accelerate a big ship (say an Orca or Rorqual) to warp speed without the cloak involved. Align, pulse the MWD ONCE [...] and warp in 10 seconds instead of 30."

If I understand it correctly, MWD+Cloak trick does NOT work on BIG ships. So what is the limit? Is it a question of mass, agility or speed? Is it my fault after all or is it something else? Are there any other fits/rigs or skills that can help me with accelerating my ship and warping out?

Here is my setup:
[Mastodon, DST?]

Damage Control II
Inertial Stabilizers II
Inertial Stabilizers II
Power Diagnostic System II

5MN Microwarpdrive II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

Improved Cloaking Device II
Core Probe Launcher I

Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II

My adequate skills:
Evasive Maneuvering - lvl 5
Spaceship Command - lvl 5
Acceleration Control - lvl 3 (soon to be 4)
Navigation - lvl 4

Thank you in advance for your help,
LU

P.S.
My first post, yay! ;)
P.P.S.
I am asking only because I've failed to find adequate answers here or elsewhere. If by any chance I am repeating the topic, please excuse and redirect me appropriately. Sincerely, LU.

Only thing that I can think of is that you can't warp with a prototype or improved cloak active.

In this case I believe the process is as follows:

Align > Cloak > Pulse MWD > Uncloak > Warp

Little trickier to pull off.

That I know ;) as I said earlier I follow every step of trick correctly.

Thank you for the reply though.

I think you need a 50mn mwd

This, pretty much. All transport ships are cruiser size so you'll need to use the 50mn MWD, which is for cruisers.

To MWD/Cloak trick on cruiser sized ships you need a 50MN microwarp drive. This category of ships includes industrials and mining barges.

I made a video guide on how it works here if you're interested, although it sounds like you already know what the process is.

As the others have said you need a larger mwd.

For size restraints, anything BS size and lower can use the trick. I used to routinely sneak through low sec camps in a domi. Was always fun to hear them complain as I warped away P

Watch a properly fit Bowhead...it's pretty interesting flying sideways!

Too bad my conventional freighters can't carry an MWD (but realistically that's perhaps a good thing they don't actually).

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I'm pretty sure the other ladies and gentlemen are correct and you need the bigger engine. However, if you still encounter such problems or have them on another ship with the proper module, you could try a thermal shielding rig. These extend the afterburner and mwd cycle duration. Your ship will accelerate for a longer period until you have to decloak leading to greater speed.
