OK, Whilst my main still has some Bellicose (See thread of that name in W&T forum) left I figured I'd try another cruiser for PVP, I am doing solo PVP, no links or alts. I am not very good at it but I am having fun.

I found a fit on zKillboard that looks OK so copied that, It was around 30m fitted so not a lot of money. I am not sure how this will fare, I am not sure how good it will be against other frigates, I suspect that unless I can disrupt and web them then I will not be able to apply much damage. Thorium charges are oin cargo just in case something prevents me from warping outside AM range and so Thorium will still allow me to apply damage... maybe?

That could be viable solo but looks like a small armour gang thorax setup normally used with rr support from a few Exequror.

Solo Rail kite fits normally have either hull tank or shield tank and a microwarpdrive.

If you want to brawl then ion blasters and armour tank is normally viable, there was a recent thread with a number of fits for the thorax.

I would go with a defensive scram or extra web on the 4th mid. I think you have enough targeting range to apply even thorium. Bring some javelin and spike, at least one full reload.

You want to keep an eye out for anything with neuts and T3d's will love to try to chomp on you, as even a fully tanked 1600mm plated ion blaster rax cannot out-brawl a Svipul.

The scram might allow you to plink at something at the edge of point, but a dual-web will be less CPU and also allow you to dictate range.

200mm ab rax is best as companion or supplemental dps in a group, imo. It has low tank, and low dps for what most likely will engage you; as most of your engagements in an ab fit are response and not initiated engagements.

On another hand, a Navy Exequror does excellent with rails (by superior speed and agility and the option of hull tanking the massive 7k hull), and large shield Vexor if you nano it--as a Vexor, if caught, can deploy lights--whereas a Rax must compromise half its dps by fitting warriors to appease chance, instead of a full flight of mediums.

Do not listen to people telling you to fly a Vexor. Thorax is a very engageable ship in the current meta and there are some great fits to get started with. Vexor whilst mostly better all round (except for kiting) can often be harder to find fights in due to its reputation.

This is a Hull gank Thorax and you will need a 3% CPU implant to fly it or downgrade the guns to Ions if you have poor fitting skills.

It excels at killing any T3D foolish enough to enter scram range with it. It is a rather simple boat to fly and good imo for new players despite its low ehp. You generally want to start the fight at zero and use keep at range around 2000 to minimise transversal and thus maximise your damage.

Try popping into a system and d-scanning around for T3Ds/frigates. If you see one or two T3Ds or a small amount of frigates open up a medium plex and sit inside it. If no one bites within a few minutes then move on.

The Rail kite Thorax whilst effective is not new player friendly. It takes a good amount of skill to pilot and continue to apply good damage whilst staying away from scrams. I would highly suggest you try either the gank one above or a more traditional plated/dual rep Thorax. The hull tanked one linked however is fantastic in the T3D heavy current meta and will guarantee you some great kills once you get the hang of it. Just make sure to ignore cruisers as you will only be able to kill active tanked ones and it is a little hard for you to work out which ones will be active tanked until you have more experience.
