Diplomacy & minimum standings to enter highsec

So recently I've been missioning for Sansha's Nation, and shooting all these empire faction and DED rats isn't exactly doing great things for my empire standings. It doesn't help that my Caldari and Amarr standings were already pretty low from all the pewpew I did in the Gallente militia a couple years back.

I've never understood exactly how the diplomacy works (mathematically) - if I train Diplomacy V is that enough to never fall below -5 adjusted standing? If not, what's the minimum? (and is there any easy way to maintain that minimum that doesn't involve turning down lots of missions or shooting Sansha's rats)

At -10.00 base standing, training Diplomacy level 5 will raise it to -6.00 modified standing. To raise it up above -5.00 standing, you'll have to grind regular missions (16 + storyline) for a level 1 agent. Once above -5.00 standing, can then work the 'Plan'.
