Game crash with high population

Trying to get involved in the fighting in O1Y but after exiting the station with the rest of the fleet, the system freezes and then I get a crash message. Here's an example:

Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000951 at address 0x10194ee1

After this happened a couple of times in succession last night, I logged out this char and logged in an alt in Jita. The same thing happened on exiting the station. I then tried an alt in a Gallente starter system and no crash, so I am presuming it is being caused by the number of people around at the time.

I have tried switching to memory optimisation and performance optimisation, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm running in a window (can't run Eve fullscreen at all) on an iMac 24", Early 2009 model. 4GB RAM, 3.06GHz Intel Core Duo, NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB. The OS is El Capitan 10.11.4

Anyone got any thoughts? ...and no, I can't go and buy a different system, and there is no viable upgrade for the graphics card.

This only began happening yesterday - it has been fine up until then.

I have the same problem. It seems that its more likely to crash when loading the grid with a lot of ships on it, like undocking with the fleet, undocking at jita, jumping into a gate with a fleet at it, etc.

Total pain - fortunately managed to undock last night and then stayed out until I had to log, but got left behind by the fleet after a series of quick gate warps because I was still waiting for the new system to load and the fleet was already jumping into the next one along - that starts to add up when it happens all the time and last night we needed to be warping really quickly. Lost a Cormorant to bombs and didn't even know it had happened until almost a minute later. Not sure I need a crashing system to compete with at the same time as those bee guys.

Devs, any ideas as to what I can do? Disabled most stuff now, and only have essential sounds but it's not exactly a beautiful game environment any more.

Have you disabled in-game music? I've found that under OSX El Capitan and the latest Wine build that there are delays when in fairly populated systems - but no crashes (yet).

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Performance for me has seemed to have gotten a lot better lately. Since the Citadel expansion, the client has crashed only once. One thing I have been doing is shutting off the computer at the end of the day. I used to leave it running. I don't know if restarting was the fix or if something changed with the expansion, but I've stopped cringing every time I hit undock.
