So the giant blue cloud in the background is SUPER bright and I have my brightness turned all the way down. I can't see anything at all when it's on my screen. Is there a way to turn it off?

You mean a nebulae?

I play with eyes closed.

Giant blue cloud where?

I've been in a shattered wormhole once that was blindingly bright when my camera was point anywhere close to the direction of the star. It's just the nature of that particular area of space; you'll have to learn to adapt.

Not the answers I was hoping for, but I guess I'll get over it.

It is one of the things CCP has always done badly. We are in these super advanced spaceships and we can't filter the background light. A background light that in reality is a construct of our sensors.

Or speaking of game mechanics, we get a background that make our overview unreadable and hurt our eyes, a very bad thing in a game.

Probably in Caldari space in a system with a white / blue star. Some of those systems can be a pain on people with light sensitive eyes. For the rest of us we really don't notice much and just think it's pretty.

Pretty much this. The only system where I've found the light to be noticeably uncomfortable is Thera.

Recently I have found that in a low sec escalation (golden light background). In the past some mission and several exploration/escalation sites had the same problem. A few of the old storyline sites had that kind of background too.
Essentially a cloud of gases strongly lighted by the sun that cover all your screen. Very fastidious even if you lower the luminosity of your screen.

This has been my bugbear for me for a long time, and undocking from the Amarr trade station is one thing that drives me nuts, the thought that went into making the camera point straight at the rediculously bright part of the background is beyond comprehension.

My theory is that the graphics department is run by a bowerbird, they like bright and shiny things.

I turn my brightness down in general settings.

Also wear shades in space. P

Confirming the graphics department is in fact run by a knobhead.

Paging CCP KnobHead, paging CCP KnobHead.

But i all seriousness, this has been a gripe for a lot of players for a long time. Using your tactical overlay on one of these st.... overly shiny backgrounds is near impossible. I remember some CCP developer writing here at some point that they would look into it. Guess that's all that happened. :/
