No not really, I'm a vet and vet's always make the same arguments, they don't like their game changing, tough tbh, it has to, this may be a game but it's also a business and people forget that, a lot.

Much as I hate to admit, what ESA said is right.

As a game, EVE is always going to have a fluid population. New players who will a.) stick it out or b.) try it and leave.
Old players will a.) Play until they burn out or b.) drop from the game.

Change, and content, are what is going to do the most to keep the servers running. I've certainly not been happy with all the changes in the past couple of years. Dailies really don't make me want to "woohoo" either. Ultimately, CCP will need to make decisions that will keep the game running. If that means adopting more "themepark" ideas, then so be it. Again, not so happy about that, but I understand.

The one redeeming thing is that Rise announced during the game balance panel that they would review and remove if necessary.

Heya o/ so what do you guys think of the new trailer? It's a welcome departure from the serious tone, but I love it for this one~

I've got a co-worker at my PT job that has been hearing my tales and thinking about joining up.

I'm fairly certain that the new Citadel trailer will pique his interest. ;)

If it's just a game don't you think that something that forces me to log in every day and penalises me if I can't is bad?

Ria, you are not being "forced" to do anything.

You are given an incentive. Should you choose to use that incentive, you will get a twinkie.

Personally, I've never been a min/maxer in the game. I couldn't honestly care less about going and shooting a rat for SP's.

I'm very much a new player. There are players that have been here for a decade longer than me. So, ESA, in his purported veterancy is straight up arguing against a new player telling me what I want. No.

I missed what Rise said during the game balance panel, but what he posted in the thread was that they would monitor PARTICIPATION. Participation in a feature that is very punishing not to take part in. It's absolutely indefensible.

There's a maximum training speed of 2700 sp/hour. The daily represents 454 additional sp/hour. That's just above having a set of +5 implants plugged in addition to whatever you currently have. And if you don't log in today, you don't get that. It is a straight up penalty.

I am a min-maxer, but at the same time I've experienced periods of varying length during which I've been unable to log in. This feature is the worst possible nightmare for people like. And with average age of the EVE population, there's a lot of people like me. One of the core tenets of the game is that as long as you're running a subscription you're advancing the same speed as everyone else.

You may be a newer player, Ria, but you have enough SP's to be competitive in pvp.

And it's not punishing, by not participating, you are opting NOT to get the twinkie.

No. It is NOT a penalty. It is a lack of a bonus. There is a distinct difference.

I have to get some work done, but will gladly continue this later.

Again, I'm not happy with this decision. I will opt out. On all my accounts.

I have no overwhelming desire to try to catch up with the 11 year vets. I'll get there in my own time.

Failure to take advantage of an offer to receive extra stuff is NOT a penalty.

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

Ok, so let's suppose that I have to ship out for the summer this year, as I had last year. I won't be able to log in, so I won't be getting that 10,000 SP every day. When I come back, I would've missed anywhere between 700,000 and 1,000,000 SP, depending on how long I have to stay out. My account is subbed till October, so what's the reason that I'm missing those skillpoints if it's not a penalty?

Random McNally wrote:

I come from a competetive background. It's the only thinking process that doesn't kill you.

This thing is designed to burn out people. No joke. I thought that EVE is going to be my sunset pasture, precisely because it didn't have things like this.

I can see both sides of the argument here. CCP wants people with active subscriptions to actually log on and play the game. This is acceptable, but I don't think skillpoints are the right reward. Ria is right in that everyone advancing skills at the same rate was one of the core tenets of EVE and something that made it different from other MMOs.

If you're unable to log in, and everyone around you is getting skillpoints that you're not getting, it IS a penalty from a relative standpoint. And it really will accumulate to a significant amount of skillpoints over a long period of time. Some players may not care, and that's fine, but personally, I'm vehemently opposed to the idea.
