Now you're here...

I've an idea for Faction Warfare. For anyone that hasn't participated before, it's a system where low-sec gate aggression is disabled for people of opposing factions. Previously, it seems it was intended for a mix of PvE/PvP and system control.

I'd like to propose a system for dragging people back into FW fighting, and not just joining FW for gate-camping/stealth-bombing the missions. Perhaps, as being listed as part of the faction's militia (in this example Caldari Militia) participants could be given a reward incentive for taking the systems again. Nothing revolutionary here, just the original intention. A call to arms announcement/e-mail about a "hot" system to all FW corporations, where a lot of faction NPCs are attempting to take a system. Spawn many NPCs with good loot, a station or such with incredible health that the enemy is firing at for example. Kind of like incursions (hint: not reinventing the wheel).

Obviously extended features could be a system ship-budget, much like the Alliance Tournament. Possibly cutting off huge corporations from taking half of low-sec for their corporation's allies. System budget could be increased the closer enemy factions get to your faction's base of operations or something.

Good idea for minimal effort? Extremely narrow-minded view of Faction Warfare? Poke holes in this please.

So you have hundreds of wartargets who know where you are and a fleet full of spies, and you want to go kill rats with incursion AI.

Why not? FW can't get any worse.

Well, the idea is the location brings in the meat. I'm not talking about Incursion AI either, that requires expensive/non-PvP fleets and that's not what i'm referring to. Merely bringing systems as focus points for regular PvP.

Flying around low-sec looking for targets gets boring quite quickly.

EDIT: Current beacons have the NPCs I'm referring to, I just meant the system warnings like Incursions with a control progression bar.

Look at your map and filter for FW contested zones, find a nice bright system that indicates that there are people actively running FW plexes in it. Grab a combat ship (or go as a group). Pew Pew. Profit.

I can assure you that running a plex inside a staging system for any of the FW factions will get you a fight pretty quickly (except for maybe the Caldari who are regrouping atm).

By "battlegrounds", I thought you were referring to PvP areas like in other MMO's. I've often wondered if you could pull off a PvP complex with competing goals. Something like two stations about 2k apart where you need to take down the defenses and then disable it. Maybe have the only working warp-ins going to the respective militia's npc fleets and non-militia pilots are barred.

It would be interesting if CCP could pull something like that off without it getting exploited to the point of ruination. They could use it as a better means for people wanting T1 cruiser and below warfare.

I guess once you have a signature, you cannot have a blank one.
