[IGS] Passive Aggression Pact

Friends, Sh*tposters, Summitgoers, lend me your ears;
I come to bury a certain annoying pilot, not to shame her
The bad posts flow into every topic,
The good is often interred in the deluge
So let it be with the troll...

For years we have all watched this get further and further out of hand. Some have tried logic, some have tried sympathy, some have tried aggression, some have tried bargaining... but, alas, all have failed.

A few have suggested mass reporting. I think we know that the troll is too stubborn, and too savvy a rules lawyer, for that route to be effective.

What I suggest is something unreasonable. A Pact to engage in the only tactics as childish as our foe: passive aggression.

First, the silent treatment. We ignore the troll and never speak its name.

Second, whenever the troll posts we reply in unison:

Quote:
This pilot is a known pirate, traitor and liar. Her words mean nothing, and yet she talks.

You should also throw in a link to this thread somewhere in there.

Third, we keep this topic bumped, and link it whenever someone who doesn't know the drill engages the troll.

At some point, all the gods willing, this pilot may decide to contribute constructively... but we all know how far fetched that is. But, if by some miracle it does happen, we can rescind the Pact at that time.

The Amarr must be purged!

On a serious note, I'll do my best to support this..

Ramen to that I say.

Some call me insane. If the universe is sane, then I embrace that label.

Not feeding the disruptive ones with the attention they desire? What a novel and unprecedented idea that surely hasn't been brought up before. Repeatedly. Ad nauseum. It's certain to work this time.

It is, I had some for lunch so that's where the word came from.

You're absolutely right. I think the problem is that people always have a variable attitude between being fed up with the nonsense, and entertained by trolling right back. Even if 99% of the forum is sick of the badposting, there's always someone who feels like taking the bait.

This is childish. Someones personal views, no matter how out spoken or out of touch with reality they may be doesn't mean they are this 'troll' concept few have been tossing around.

Instead of trying to thicken your skin under some petty agreement, you could simply ignore them if they offend you so much.

This. If you don't want to hear someone's words, ignore them. Besides, this is an open and public venue. I think the current spat of Blood Raider loving pilots are some of the worst posters (and god awfully cringe worthy if it wasn't for the fact one of them atleast really is a mass murderer on another level) but I have no right or say in stopping their announcements here. Only the DED have that power.

If you just don't plain like someone, well tough luck.

I'm pretty sure I said up front that it was childish. So, you're right. I agree.

Ignoring the troll doesn't work. Active measures must be employed.

Also, those of you who choose to ignore her: keep up the good work.

This is a post for everyone who is tempted to respond. If you must respond, respond in unison. Say only "This pilot is a known pirate, traitor and liar" and return to the actual topic without further interaction.

If you cannot handle the rantings of one individual the IGS is not the public forum for you. Being a child will just place you in the same light as those you wish to punish.

But when their repeated actions both on and off the forums disrupt the IGS' already deeply-strained capacity for intelligent and fluid discourse, it veers directly into troll territory. With the individual in question, their lack of self-control was apparently so profound that it led to a permanent expulsion from various neocom channel due to the sheer volume of complaints moderators received from third parties, and, on occasion, the sheer volume of abuse their moderators received from the individual.

Robbed of that particular avenue to abuse and belittle their imagined enemies, the individual has turned their disruptive behaviour towards the IGS instead.

I ad always noticed a certain trend.

When a certainn person was NOT AROUND, topic would always drift to them.

For months.

Without their help.

You may be speaking to the wrong crowd.

"I say that even as the holy and the righteous cannot rise beyond the highest which is in each one of you - so the wicked and the weak cannot fall lower than the lowest which is in you also.  And as a single leaf turns not yellow but with the silent knowledge of the whole tree, so the wrong-doer cannot do wrong without the hidden will of you all."

Who said anything about punishment?

Its not about "handling the rantings" its about constant derailment of every topic with the same personal attacks. Hell, they aren't even attacks against me. Every time we repeat the same pattern, and people are tired of it.

Like I said, if we see a change, we can all start acting like adults. Wouldn't that be nice?

Well don't expect to garner any respect from others outside this little agreement.

I know my temper will get the better of me but atleast trying to quell the individual in question still should be attempted. Nobody cares about a certain race's POWs in a discussion about a pool party for example. Nor does it have a place being brought up. I'm guilty of it myself at times but I don't think I harp on it as badly as the other. Please tell me if I do.

By the way, if someone has ideas for a better standard reply by all means share. My OP may be too provocative, and I'm willing to consider and promote an alternative phrasing.
