Can't find the gamma slider.

I have looked, but cannot find any form of gamma slider from the games options.
I had to spend 15 minutes fiddling around with my monitor settings before I could see anything properly. Surely there has to be a gamma option hidden somewhere in the many thousand menus. Blink

You do know that all modern video card settings allow setting of gamma from video drivers, right?

In fact, that should be the way to do it - to get your display and video card adjusted properly so all applications then look okay without further tweaking in the app.

If you need to adjust gamma in games every time you install a new one, I would suggest that you are doing it wrong :)

No, only Eve, everything else looks fine from the start. Maybe I should install it again and see if that makes things better.

Most games seem to have some form of gamma control but I rarely have any call to use them. Eve, on the other hand, seems to be in great need of a gamma control yet does not posses one. Sods law I would guess. Bear

I do agree on one thing; EVE gamma is set just fine for high quality monitors that have wide color gamut and contrast. Just like on most high end monitors a video game artist would use. However, playing on low end cheap TN panel display with poor color reproduction is another matter and I agree that EVE looks a bit weak by default on a display like that, usually wishing you could adjust the gamma a bit. Blacks tend to be not black enough on such displays and the contrast between actual black and dark tones is not good enough when viewed on low end displays. I mean space is dark and EVE space matches that (even if it does have some very bright nebula) and objects in space should have very dark shadowed areas and that becomes a problem for low end monitors to reproduce.

I have a wide color gamut display with my main PC (well, a "low end" one as far as pro displays go, 800-900 euro display, not one of those 1500 euro+ ColorEdges) and the gamma is just fine. EVE looks very vibrant.

Perhaps CCP should exchange some of those pricy pro level monitors of their artists with some "consumer grade" TN-film junk displays so the artists could see how their stuff looks for the 99%... Twisted (hey, they could do that swap for one day and see how many artists would slit their wrists and/or jump off the roof... on the other hand I guess good artists are hard to find so that may not be the best idea. Or at least they would have to monitor the artists reactions carefully to cut down the suicide rate)

My monitor doesn't like it when you call it names, so if you apologize to my monitor, like I know you are going to then..... Lol

The lack of any sort of gamma control will play a part in my decision to subscribe or not.

Apologies. I'm mostly calling EVE a "designed for high contrast/wide gamut monitors" game :)

Again, a workaround would be to use the gamma controls in your graphics card drivers. I believe both ATI and NVIDIA have those available. It may mean you need to also tweak the gamma on other games to match your video driver setting but I believe that this is doable and would have to be done only once.

Note that at least NVIDIA has two sets of settings - one specifically for videos and one for general desktop settings. The one for videos won't work on anything other than detected video player windows.

EVE's had a lot of deficiencies like this for a long time now but devs have been cleaning up a LOT of them lately.

For instance we only got AA support within the last year or so.

And we got a "Loot All" button and UI scaling at the end of this last November.

Later this month we get a new neocom (that thing with all the buttons on the left) that will provide full customization of how you want the neocom to function ^^

Got it, thank you. I have set up a profile from within my ATI control panel, and now when my Eve loads up, I am rewarded with a bright and beautiful universe. Blink

Same settings can also be used to fine tune your graphics for specific games if your GPU is too slow, so you don't have to change settings each time you play or you can tweak up the settings to look even better for EVE alone.
GPU drivers have default settings stored for games and EVE usually isn't one of those. X

Crucible brought with it a generalized darkening of the EVE universe. I feel your pain and by adjusting the gamma in the CCC, as it is now called "AMD VISION Engine Control Center", you can actually 'see' what is happening.

Yes, it worked great for eve but did have a knock back with other games and programs, most of which I was able to adjust through their individual settings, so not a big problem.

I am sure it would do no harm for CCP to include a gamma slider for us poor people with lower grade monitors, because Eve does looking outstanding at the right brightness. Big smile

I have now subscribed and I am finding the game very interesting indeed.
