Dealing with this trio

So there's a trio of ships who keep setting up gatecamps near our home system, and I wondered what people's opinions were on how to deal with them.

The ships involved are not always the same, and sometimes there are more than three, but the core of this strategy is:

- 1 Interdictor
- 1 ECM boat
- 1 high-damage battleship

Sometimes this is supplimented with extra DPS ships or an interceptor.

The interdictor sits on the gate, but aligned and ready to warp out. The battleship sits aligned to the gate at 250km and warps in if the target is sufficiently juicy. The ECM boat either sits on the gate, or at 250km with the battleship. Sometimes they're all on the gate, but cloaked initially.

If a solo player jumps through they're scrammed, webbed and shot to pieces. If a decent sized fleet shows up they warp to safe spots and cloak, then log out if we stick around. If we send a bait ship through, the ECM ship ensures it can't point anyone before they all wap out.

The only solution I've seen proposed is a hotdrop, which seems very OTT to deal with a potentially 3-man camp, but then I'm new to null so what do I know Roll

Suggestions?

During my pottering around Curse I saw many similar camps, some augmented by anchored bubbles.

It did not seem at all OTT when a PL drake warped into one such camp and the ensuing hotdrop decimated the campers. As someone wanting to bring a vulnerable ship thru that gate I was most appreciative of their clearing the way, and watching the camp get torn apart was a thing of great beauty.

No doubt you will get lots of more learned advice from experienced PvPers but I am so totally in favour of your hot-dropping the bejeezus out of them.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Same fleet comp...double the size lol. But in all seriousness 3-4 Hac/Faction cruiser(read as cynable) should do the job. as long as everyone knows what they are doing. That could be assuming a lot sometimesRoll

If I remember correctly, someone mentioned that that particular system couldn't be cynoed into for some reason. Cyno jammer or something. It was a friendly system, so I'm not sure why OUR capitals would be affected.

The only workable suggestion anyone had was to use a covert ops cyno and a black-ops battleship to get around it, but we didn't have any of those on-hand Sad

*edit* If 3-4 HACs jumped through they would just warp off and cloak. A bait hurricane was tried at one point, but even with a backup sensor array it still got ECM'ed out and couldn't point anything before they warped off.

Bait Dominix with multiple ECCMs, and a gang waiting a jump or two out might be able to do it. It depends on the exact ships they're using and the range they come in at. Can you give us more details?

In two words, recon gang. I'm going to assume they don't safe up and cloak for a single person in local. If that is the case, slow boat to them (head on) in a pilgrim and decloak with a ship bump on the BS. This will knock him out of alignment. The pilgrim then tackles the BS wtih scram, web and neuts. Obviously the falcon is going to jam you within a few seconds of this move, so pop your covert cyno and covert bridge an arazu and falcon in. Your falcon jams their falcon (sebo helps) and the BS. The arazu tackles the falcon and damps him just to be sure. At this point you should have everything you need to destroy the falcon and the BS. Obviously if more dps ships are present, you will want some logi t3's or dps ships to jump in too.

In any case, I don't think blobbing is going to be the best method. They probably have scouts around so they'll know if you're coming at them with twice as many guys. A hotdrop is also likely inefective since if the BS has any brains, he'll be set for mid range rather than point blank. So a bait domi will not work as he won't enter point range. I've done camps similar to this and traditional baits just don't work against them. They are configured to evade such simple moves.

Come to think of it, I should probably click cancel rather than post. Wonder which I'll hit.

Log off in system when they aren't there, get some dude in a ridonkulously overtanked ship (eg, ECCM'd hyperion) to stumble through, then pull a log-on trap on them.

If the battleship is alligned to the gate then it will be easy to get him.

Send any covert-ops cloak fitted ship to within 5km or so of the BS.
Warp HIC to scout at 0, when in warp, jump in another HIC and bubble up.
This way the battleship is screwed, he either hits the edge of the bubble or tries to turn around.
If he tries to turn around he's screwed because the scout can point him as soon as he breaks allignment.

I like the idea of the cloaked bump too, i've done that before and it works fairly well.

Falcon can jam your HIC all day, that bubble isn't going anywhere Cool

I good ol fashion cloaky roam running into them would end it, under 1 min.

Theres better tactics out there, ones that just baffled me.

Ferox + bomb launcher frig warping in JUST to pop the dictor, it works...

Small overtanked fleet high on Cyno's to entrap a roam, it works, killing the scouts off one by one.

I'd probably counter this gang with bait, a HIC, and a 3 or 4 drams or taranis.

Get a noob in a shield and hull tanked domi or something else cheap to jump in and bait them to the gait. Have the HIC cloaked at a safe 500k off the gate and jump when the bait get's aggro'ed. With the bubble up it's unlikely the bs or ecm boat will get far. Drams and rani's warp fast so they can sit off grid. Once they jump into the action they lock faster than most ecm boats and the drones stay on target even if they get jammed after. Blackbird/falcon wont tank long, tackle and pop the inty then wreck the bs's drones first and him last for the trifecta.

Stay fast and mobile and use a mix of e-war; td's and damps with scan res dampening to bork their lock time.
