Message in a Bottle

Some info on the story behind:

When people speak about Chinese internet culture, the subject of imposed national Firewalls is never far behind. Indeed, the 'Great Firewall' of China is linked to the (then) legal issues that required the creation of a separate Serenity server in the first place.

While the bridge between worlds is a little less sci-fi than in the video (Teamspeak is fit for purpose), the essence of it is real: Eve 'weapons technology' can be exchanged in a very meaningful way. It's interesting that whatever legal and cultural boundaries are imposed, the unstoppable Eve virus finds its way through.

For that matter, as unrealistic as it may be, and as many years as it may sit as a mere conceptual bullet point, I'd still like to see TQ and Serenity connected via occasionally spawning wormholes. The mater/anti-matter concept is a staple of sci-fi and could underpin any such interaction. For example, 'matter' originating in TQ's universe would degrade in Serenity, and vice versa. Either you make it back through a wormhole within a reasonable timespan or the ships and the equipment in them will simply cease to exist. This ensures the safety of each economy while opening the door for destructive raids from another world.

During times when the patch version is very different (although Tiancity are bringing that gap ever closer), the wormholes could simply not spawn. However, it's interesting how far the Serenity forums have investigated the technological side of this and to my surprise many of them can already use a unified client with different cache settings for both worlds. They are very keen to have pods be allowed to permanently survive such a journey and begin a second life in another world - but that's a subject for another day (and another small step on the way to 60k+ online again).

I should mention that when Fulcrum first contacted me in the 'Ironclad' era in late 2009/early 2010 or thereabouts, it was a Guardian group he was seeking to build and perfect. While this short video deals with tools that involve people screaming a lot, he has adapted quite a range of our meta and tactics over there, and hopefully I can share some more of that in future.

Some of the notions touched on here - to do with the direct meeting of the two worlds in some form or other - may never happen. Still, it's a time when dinosaurs are running rampant in Deklein, goonhammers are being forged, banks are funding epic wars (okay, that happens in life too) and Dan & co. wield the reddit pen as a sword. So perhaps anything is possible.

For new/unusual mechanics we have stuff like Gridline Bombing to share.

Pipebombing has the most emphatic reactions - and that's why of the many weapons Fu1crum & co. have deployed, it's the one chosen for a trailer here. Multiculturalism with dynamite, if you will.

What an amazing video!!!
I for one would watch as many videos as you would ever make on this mechanic, be it 3 or 300...
And the 'out of game' cinematic are amazing!

I agree that this is a great video. What's even more amazing is the fact that even though China has imposed draconian internet policies, that the tactics used by RnK on one server crossed over to the other. Culturally speaking it is called acculturation.

Now I ask myself if anything on the Chinese server has had an equivalent impact on the non-Chinese server? Even if said servers where never connected - intentional projects like this video could really increase the cross polination of the others.

It also begs to ask, did similar tactical ideas emerge on each without the pushing factors of videos or the sharing of information. The evolution of each server might be amazing to study.

Anyways, enough geeking out.

Found the video and the resulting questions to be definately worth the watch.
