Retiring planetside?

First, a bit of background, I fly unarmed transport ships almost exclusively, and have for many years sought my fortune in playing the markets and supplying other capsuleers with armaments.

In light of recent announcements by CONCORD that certain new technologies would be shared only with capsuleers willing to engage in bounty-hunting for CONCORD, I find I am unlikely to renew my pilot's license.

I've amassed enough isk to convert into a large sum of most planetary currencies, and intend to retire planetside, likely permanently.

The choice which is proving difficult however, is which planet to settle on? Gallente Prime is entirely too urbanized a tourist trap for my tastes. I would prefer a temperate world with both a good degree of unspoiled nature and a share of its own engineering marvels. (Even if they are nothing to write home about compared to capsule tech.) I would also strongly prefer a world where Gallentean is commonly spoken, as despite years of effort, my Amarrian is quite horrible, and that's that's still my best besides Gallentean.

Which world would you recommend for retired life, and why?

(Also, please do not request any asset giveaways here, I am making other arrangements for their transport and storage.)

I am very sure that if you poke around a 0.5 sec system you will find the planet you are looking for.

However, High Sec is still going to be quite urbanised. 0.5 sec is somewhat less settled, usually anyway (one exception being Villore), but they will typically have large swathes of greenery still left to settle close to, and you don't have to share.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

I wouldn't recommend any worlds in the Federation. They have started the war against us and I don't see it coming to the end untill all their worlds will be set ablaze.

World in the Empire look like calm and good choice, but try to keep far away from the Minmatar borders. These tribals tend to attack the Empire and kidnap its citizens, and considering you aren't of Amarr descent, low-witted minmatars might easily abduct you, considering you another "slave".

Caldari worlds are really not for retirement. Nobody will respect you in the State if you won't be working. Though if you are looking for engineering marvels, Caldari worlds are the best bet. All of Caldari colonies are comparatively recent builds. If you like though antiquity, again, look towards the Empire.

Minmatar worlds? Well, I hope you don't plan to rot among savages.

But anyway, I think the best planet to retire would be your home. You can roam through diffrent planets and worlds, but I doubt you will find anything better than the place where you grew up.

She's Gallente. The mention of Gallente Prime should clue that in.

If you are looking for some place quite within Gallente boarders but lacking the hustle and bustle of the core worlds (like Gallente Prime), I would suggest a system in the Solitude region. Solitude is a member of the Federation so Gallentean is still a primary language however it is separated by low sec and null sec regions. So the systems there don't see much in the way of tourism.

Vale is a pretty nice system to live in. Isolated, but close to the capital!

You lose nothing except by running away.

Is it jealousy that you choose to walk away when those who do what you will not, gain what you do not have?

Perhaps I should leave everything behind because I do not reap the rewards of hauling freight or plying the market, I do not haul freight or ply the market.

Maybe I will buy a +3 implant and not complain instead.

The more remote corners of nullsec have some fabulously undeveloped paradises ripe for the taking. I've personally seen several in the northern parts of Fountain, with clear, unpolluted atmospheres and oceans that are noticeably more blue (I have archived cam drone images of some of them if you want some recommendations).

With the amount of ISK you've earned, if there are any settlements on them then buy them off, build your own country estate and become their benevolent dictator.

Create your own world.

And gurista or whatever other pirate scum who own the place raiding your own world for anything they consider valuable or... just salvageable...

Nullsec will become suitable for life only after CONCORD will seize these territories and increase their security rating. And I don't think this happening in the nearest century. I wouldn't bet on this though, who knows what plans does CONCORD have, they never tell it to us. But the situation have been developing rather rapidly in last couple of years. With appearance of these wormholes, disappearance of Jove, incursion of Sansha and Drifters attacks...

Now, when the CONCORD will make their move?

I am obviously biased, but as Captain Katz notes, there are some wonderfully tranquil places in Solitude.

My own home of Octanneve V, for example, has wonderful agricultural vistas (remember, much of what humans find beautiful in 'unspoilt nature' is anything but, and created by human intervention over centuries). Then, in the north of the continent of Arisia, and some of the smaller archipelagoes, the landscape is dramatic and completely untouched. Bear in mind that we have a long, long orbit, however, so winter (soon to be upon us) is several years in duration. It has a stark beauty of itself, and the skiing is good. (Similar, summer is endless, balmy and fragrant).

There's some extraordinary agricultural engineering projects to see on the Estates, the product of some of the finest Sebeistor minds we can attract. Architectural excellence is encouraged too, if that's your thing.

The main languages spoken are Mannar and the Minmatar tribal variants, but everyone speaks Gallente too. You also have an outstanding representative in the local district assembly.

Thank you for your advice. I write this from Octanneve V orbit, as my license will expire within 24 hours. The journey through Genesis and Aridia was pleasant. It looks beautiful from above. I will be landing to speak to a real estate agent shortly.

Perhaps we will meet on the ski slopes once winter walls.

I myself have a personal plantation-villa built into the jungles of Matais in New Caldari. It's where I go when I want to rotate planet-side for a bit instead of taking a desk job or just romping around Jita. Admittedly I am somewhat sentimental of the location, as it's not far from where I carried out my last mission assignment as a Dragonaur before being formally accepted into the State War Academy. It rains quite a bit and the summers are rather humid but you'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful, relatively undisturbed location.

Most of the planet is owned by Kaalakiota but as a capsuleer you shouldn't have too much of a hard time leasing out a spot of land in an underdeveloped area, and if you having the towing capacity you could easily haul in any infrastructure you need from Jita to build your dream settlement. I myself paid for the cost of construction and several of the operational fees for the next several years in the raw materials alone that are made available to you on the planet's surface. There's plenty of room to expand as well. Gods, I've even had to time to make my own small-batch cigar and tobacco company down there.

Granted maybe its not for a Gallente like you, but if any fellow Caldari are looking for beautiful planetary real-estate where they can gather their thoughts while staying in New Caldari you can't beat Matais.

Welcome!

Wrap up well, because the Frenzy is almost at its height (Autumn gets exceptionally windy due to the temperature gradient getting unstable) In a year or so, things will calm down as winter grips.

When you're settled, come up to Coldhammer and I'll be honoured to share some of our best wine cellar. Nothing makes winter more delightful than a roaring fire, good company and the finest brandy in the region.
