I've played eve off and on for a good few years but never truly advanced much. I have a bit over 8 mil SP and fly a harb currently. I just bought a navy slicer with LP and fitted it the best I can from viewing some loadouts on battleclinic. Is this ship mainly good for pvp or both pvp and pve? I do like it and would love a good solo pvp. Also, should I limit myself to lvl 2 missions with it?

Slicer's a great pvp ship. Probably the fastest frig in the game.

But it (like every faction ship) is relatively expensive to lose, so do keep that in mind while you're learning.

I suggest a Punisher for getting the idea of frig combat. Cheap is good in PvP. Especially while learning.

o.0

Why? Even L1 missions make more isk....unless you're just bored : /

Sliceer is a nice ship, but honestly the harbinger is going to be much better at pve (despite being relatively bad at pve for a battlecruiser...)

It might make a good ship for running lowsec plexes or pirate arcs, though.

Would someone post a good slicer fit for me? Both pve and pvp. Would like some suggestions on what all I can do and what I should avoid in this ship (i.e. what ships I could go toe to toe against in pvp and what I should not bother with.).

If you're careful you can do some L4s in it. It will be really slow. All you have to do is pick off any webbers first, then any frigs, then cruisers. The BS won't hit you unless you stop or run into something.

It was good for a char that I grinded standings on faster than skills, or good for a new char where you focus on support/fitting/gunnery skills before putting too much into the ship command ones.

edit: Fly something bigger when the novelty wears off.

I've been using a Slicer to fly Lvl 2 missions for Serpentis and Archangels in Curse. Went really well once i got T2 guns and Scorch crystals. Could probably tackle some of the Lvl 3 missions as well.

Slicers are great. I've used them in L3 missions (which is not the easiest thing to do) and they're a lot of fun in PVP. My definition of "expensive" is a little different than some I guess, because I can lose slicers all day long and still have fun with it.

3s can be tricky. 4s are almost easier (if more time consuming) because the BS rats have 0 chance to hit you unless you approach them directly, stop, or get seriously webbed. The BC/cruiser rats have an outside chance to do some damage, sometimes.

There are better frigs for Pve than the slicer though, it can be kinda fun to use something just for the novelty.

The ability to kite is quite nice in PVP, but as always there are ways to counter that as well.

It is a decent ship overall thanks largely due to how great scortch is, the lack of mid slots however, is annoying.

Slicer is great for pvp... but i have personally used one to great extend in low level missions and its fun to fly aswell

Small Capacitor Control Circuit I

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I

the core probe launcher really is just an optional as there isn't much you can fit in that last high slot when it comes to Pve. Tho a salvager might also work.

The fit isn't cap stable. i get about 3 mins 40sec worth of capacitor (with my current skills) running everything and using multi F ammo. but fact is. you don't need to prema run your AB or armor rep, if you move around enough you take little damage.

and i chose beams for their extra range, tracking isn't that bad if you keep a little distance to the small fast npc frigates.

as for larger ships... just dont approach them directly. move at an angle to keep your transversal high, orbiting at 7500 or even 10 000 m with your AB off and they still wont hit you (just keep your eye on other NPC's that might have some range on you)

Slicers are currently 15 in Jita and has been there for a while. That's a pretty cheap ship. Virtually all faction frig prices have been decreasing for a long while.

A rifter or punisher costs less than 10m to lose (T2 evrything). A faction frig costs at least double that. More likely triple.

Since learning to pew (especially in a frig) is, to a large extent, an exercise in dying a lot, being able to die three times as often on the same bankroll is probably nice.
