Is it possible to modify you client to show cloaked ships? It looks like I just witnessed someone decloak a ship 300km off a gate in a random location. The suspect didn't circle for hours and get lucky with the decloak, they went straight for the ship and decloaked it. like they knew where it was.

Might be an adroit player who has previously identified a persistent camper's bookmark off gate.

There's probably a perfect explanation for what you saw. Modifying the game client in such a way is not possible as far as I am aware.

The server probably wouldnt tell you where a cloaked ship is, it just wouldn't be part of a packet update, no real reason.

But its not that hard, or you get lucky. I almost decloaked (10km from) a black ops bship that I set out for over 300km away, and it was moving. Bit of luck and skill, and the first person camera helps a bunch.

A cloaked ship will be de-cloaked by any other un-cloaked object coming within 2000m.

Pretty sure what you saw was either a) somebody who already had the location bookmarked warping to it and getting lucky or b) an "accidental" de-cloak where an un-cloaked "friendly" did a warp-to-zero on his cloaked buddy. Which may of course have been deliberate :-)

Probably should have said,

the 300km wasn't bookmarked it wasn't even aligned, just a random place in space behind a gate. The system was empty when I cloaked so yeah, amazed to see the ship come straight for me.

Oh and i wasn't in fleet and was on my own.

300km and you didn't move out of the line? Even at 10km/s, it's still 30 seconds to make a move...

I think a very very very long time ago it used to be possible to use the games debugging tools to show the events for objects appearing on grid, including cloaked ships. As a result I'm pretty sure this got stomped on and is now strictly all server side and has been for almost a decade.

That's why I thought I'd ask. We're having a conversation in corp at the moment and they seem to think python injectors are a way to modify the client to make this happen. If it is possible something needs to be done about it.

Pretty sure it's not. The client should never receive this data, so there is nothing to mess with to give you that information. Remember this is EvE, not some crappy FPS :p CCP has had over a decade of a fiercely dedicated player base trying to find every exploit and advantage they can get their hands on and while CCP is not infallible, I think they learned a long time ago to keep any data not strictly needed out of the client.

Bugs and exploits should be reported through the proper channels. Bugs should be brought to the attention of CCP by filing a bug report for our Quality Assurance department. More information on filing bug reports can be found here. Discussions about unverified issues in game can cause unnecessary panic in the community. When there is an issue that the EVE Online community needs to be aware of, it will be communicated via an official statement from CCP after thorough investigation.

If you think someone was exploiting a bug in the game, please submit a bug report to CCP with all the required details and they will look into it.

Keep in mind that when you hit cloak you don't cloak right away. If someone started approaching you before you cloaked and kept going until they decloaked you, you'd be decloaked unless you changed your trajectory. That's one possible explanation for what you saw.
