Best way on these forums is to use an alt regardless of what someone says, because they will hound you in-game.

never been hounded in game because i talk on the forums, i doubt any other person who uses a main has the same experience either so i dont agree with that point at all

AFAIK you need a negative standing to have a bounty placed on your character. A bit of ratting will keep that danger at bay.

yeah no I have a 5.0 standing and I get bounties put on me

Not really strange.

If someone uses the forum frequently and has a differing opinion on how the game should be, then if they hound them in-game they stand a chance of driving them from the game and hence removing those other opinions from the forums.

Which is why it's always better to use an alt, then if you say something they don't want to hear you are not putting your main at risk.

Sadly risk adversion stretches to forum posts as well.

Well from experience I've had 2 characters hounded over the years because of the forums.

Why do you think some people say post with your main, because they really care who you are? No because they would know who your character is in-game so they can take action against it.

My point was that you are better posting with an alt so that if anyone wants to be petty over the forums they can't take it in-game.

how can they exactly hound you?

then hound them back, what's the problem? What?

I nearly didn't answer this as you seem to have played for awhile and should be aware of how it could and was done.

Tracker agents combined with local chat.

Watch-lists (now removed I believe) even with them gone it still can be done although if they don't log on often it would be a problem. Removing watch-lists was one of the better changes.

As for hound them back, that's not even worth answering.

That's weird. This character is my main, and I use it not only here but also on FHC and reddit, and I've never gotten in-game grief for any of my postings. And I think I've gotten more bounties placed on me by fleetmates and friendly neighbors than anybody trying to bother me.

I have dabbled with EVE for several years now, but each time I return, I feel like if I speak in local or NPC corp chat, or any of the other channels, I am punished. The bounty system is so easily abused because chatting leads to random people placing a bounty on my head.

Now, I am a carebear, through and through. A simple check of my kill to death ration can confirm that. I also spend a great deal of time either mining or exploring. I make no apologies for it. But in an MMO that should encourage communication between players, one of the first rules of EVE is "don't speak." Yeah, I know I can chat to my hearts content and just accept random bounties placed on my head, but that just places a bigger mark on my head.

Anyway, I don't think removing the bounty system is the solution, but it would be nice if I could chat while having my fun without being labeled WANTED just for trying to be social in a social game.

Well, my 10 frees days is up soon and I am not sure I will sub again yet. But while playing for the last 9 days, it occurred to me that this is one of those nagging features of EVE that I don't enjoy. I like being social, but being penalized for it really sucks.

Fly safe.

When I first started playing EVE, I didn't know anybody else who played. So for a while I didn't communicate with anybody whatsoever. Then I discovered the NPSI lifestyle - no API checks, no corp commitment, no application fee scam, just a group of folks working together for mutual benefit. It was really easy then to start chatting, learning, and building social connections, and now I can't imagine being anywhere else. As a carebear, look up CASMA, the CAS Mining Alliance, which isn't actually an alliance, rather it's a group of cooperative folks doing carebear stuff together. They would be happy to answer questions, help you out, do group ops together, etc.
http://www.cascorporation.com/cas_resources.html

Stories like yours are the reason I think the drive some have to punish players for staying in their starter corp is really bad for the game, and instead CCP should be looking to enhance the capabilities of these loose social groups like CASMA and CCG.

When you get a bounty, have one of your friends kill you and then split the cash. Unless of course you like the cool [WANTED] sign on your portrait

Doesn't work that way anymore. You would only get 20% of the value of ship destroyed taken from your bounty.

Bounty system is a waste of time anyway, if they want to hound you it wouldn't be the in-game bounty system they would use.

But doesn't really matter to me now as I'm not even really playing the game or any other game and as time goes by it's looking like it will remain that way.

But my advice would still be you're better off just using an alt to post, keeping the forum separate to the game.

If you are in an NPC corp. with no bounty, you will more than likely get a small bounty placed on you, even if you just say 'Hi' in corp. chat.

I doubt they will give a bounty to those that are likely to lose that bounty. So really it's meant to target PvE players where that bounty can stay for a very long time.

Edit:

As for war-decs I can't really comment, although I hear war-decs might be issued more frequently these days. Although I wouldn't think that really ties in with chatting.
