Hello.

As i do believe that we have quite alot of space fans here on the EVE Online forum. Yeah, we are on a forum that is about a game that is in space after all, then i believe there are some of you here that do have telescopes as a big hobby or something.

Because i'm not much into telescopes yet, i think i might find some good answers from you here by asking some questions here about this.

Now, i'm a big space fan myself. I do love everything that has to do with planets and everything else about the galaxy and so on. So i do have plans on investing some money into a pretty good telescope meant for intermediate or advanced users. Yes, telescopes for beginners will be to simple and boring for me. I want something that can give me really good results when looking at planets and galaxies for example.

Telescopes meant for experts (which is above advanced) would however be overkill for me and it would cost me a fortune. So i'm not going to that in a long time.

As i'm new to this, i do have plans on investing all from 600 and up to about 1200 dollars on a good telescope that will do the job for me after what i will use the telescope for. But my question is, what telescope would be the right choice for me?

I have been looking on the internet after what others are recommending for a telescope and so on. And i found this web page that gives me some tips on what kind of telescope that might fit me.

As you can see from that web page, they are recommending the 'Celestron NexStar SE Series' telescopes there which i believe is very good. But i would also like to hear from you here on what you think is the best choice for watching planets and other galaxies and on what kind of telescope type (Refracting or Reflecting as examples) you think is the best one for what i'm gonna watch?

And what kind of brand would you recommend when it comes to quality telescopes?

If you have telescopes that you recommend, then link to the specific telescope and tell me the positive and negative sides with those telescopes you are linking to.

Have a good day \o.

I never owned a telescope but I used the Starry Night astronomy software. The 2003 version already had the feature to connect your telescope to the computer and sync the telescope with the software.

Ok, after looking around for a week now, i think i have found the perfect telescope that would work really good for me. The only issue is that i have to go up in price to be able to get that.

As i like advanced technology and stuffs like that, i think this telescope would be great: http://www.telescopes.com/products/celestron-nexstar-evolution-8-telescope

With that telescope, i can just connect it to my smartphone via a Wi-Fi hotspot from the telescope and controll the telescope via my smartphone. And because the smartphone does have app called 'SkyPortal' that have a massive database of stars, galaxies and planets and so on, i can just choose the object on the phone and the telescope will just point to that object automaticly Big smile.

That makes alot of things much easier to use.

But i have to buy me a real camera to if i want to take pictures of objects, because i wont really get any good pictures with a smartphone for that as i need a very long shutter time to be able to catch objects that isn't that bright. And smartphones doesn't have a longer shutter time than 30 seconds (my smartphone only have 10 second with shutter time). I would need at least 10 minutes with shutter time before i would be able to catch more darker objects in the sky.

What do you guys think about that choice?

From old astrophotography thread. It was 2000$ and was controlled from computer.

Thanks. I'm gonna have a look at that topic. Oh also, was that topic back in 2011 made by you?

EDIT: What was done in that topic you linked me is EXACTLY the thing i want to do myself with a telescope. To be able to take pictures of galaxies and nebulaes like that and so on Big smile.
