I have done PI since it came out but for the life of me I have never noticed any difference in scans or range with different levels of these two skills. It has never matter if Ive done my PI in a different region, same system, or right next to the planet itself scan wise or resource wise.

Is it just me or can someone tell me what the difference is or if there is one? What?

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

remote sensing means you can sit in a station in one system and 'scan' planets X light years in another system away for their resources. it makes no difference at all once you drop a command centre on a planet, at that point you can access the planet from anywhere.

higher levels of planetology and advanced planetology make the extraction 'estimates' more accurate. this is the estimate given when you load a program into the extractor control unit.

i left both at III.

I had planetology at 3 when I setup most of my planets. Since then I have upgraded to planetology 4 and advanced planetology 4 - it does make a significant difference in yield.

I have remote sensing at 3 but never figured out how it works - if you have a command center on a planet, you can manage it from anywhere. If you don't have a command center you need to be in system to view in planet mode - maybe there is some way to do this remotely using the map, my planets are all within a couple of jumps from my base so I have never tried.

Well that makes sense then. Hmm kinda makes remote sensing a useless skill as afaik most ppl survey planets while in the same system anyway. What?

Ill have to check on the advanced planetology then. I have one character that trained it but I never noticed a significant difference in anything. Though I must admit I wasnt keeping detailed records so maybe Ill go back and look at it again.

I just know that CCP doesnt always get things right or have "useful" skills *cough*jury riggingtac shield manipulation*cough* beyond a certain level so I was curious. Thanx for the responses guys.Big smile

Nah tbh I found it useful in an "i'm lazy" way. I was prospecting for planets to set up my PI chains and I was just sitting in the main system, in station, in my corps constellation while checking out the neighbouring systems' planets. I wanted my chain around that area because of reasons so the LY range wasn't a huge factor. Beats having to run from system to system in order to do this.

Jury rigging 5 is useful if (and only if) you want to make T3 subsystems.
