We've released a new launcher version, 1021473, that keeps track of last build downloaded per server so that on startup, it doesn't have scan all files in the index to determine if anything needs to be downloaded. This should especially help with Wine versions.

We've also updated the Wine version used by default. This should address issues some players have had with starting up Wine, especially on older OS X versions, no longer falling back to XQuartz.

If you haven't tried EVE under Wine yet, I encourage you to do so. To enable it, go to Preferences... in the menu bar for the launcher, select Wine for the wrapper and restart the launcher. See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6380823#post6380823 for more information.

Note that settings are not automatically migrated over - I'm still working on that bit.

Please tell us about any issues you have with running under Wine - we don't fix issues we don't know about! Of course, positive feedback is always appreciated as well, keeps us motivated :)

The WINE set-up has been excellent so far, thank you.

Just a note: today, after logging on after downtime, I have experienced a very odd graphical glitch. When travelling through a gate, the screen is taken over by a full-screen advert for Citadels and Project Discovery. This locks the screen, with no inputs recognised, not even ESC. The first couple of times it went away after a minute or so. I rebooted, but the next jump triggered the same. The third time after reboot, the adverts continued into a Gurista event ad, and I had to terminate with Force Quit.

In addition, after the first hijack, all my UI windows (overview, d-scan etc) went to a black, opaque background and no transparency. Unpinning them brought back the usual colour, but pinning them caused them to go back to black background after a few moments.

I run the client in WINE on a recent 5k iMac. Hope this is useful. (May need to download a Gal-Net Ad-Blocker Smile )

We're investigating this issue, it is not limited to Wine. Logs would be useful, if you get this to happen with LogLite running. Please file a bug report and attach the saved log from LogLite.

This may be happening when the client runs low on video memory, so running at a lower resolution may help, or lowering graphics settings, particularly for post processing.

As of today, the WINE wrapper stopped working for me. It used to first launch Xquartz, and then start EVE clients inside of that. Now it doesn't launch Xquartz, and nothing happens on clicking the play button. Activity monitor shows a wine server and 4 wine processes starting up, and then closing after a minute or two (after which the 'play' button in the launcher reverts from its 'stop' icon back to its 'play' icon.)

Anyone else having troubles?

I've seen reports of issues on OS X 10.9 - what version are you on?

The previous build of Wine is still available, try selecting the 1.8.1-test version rather than latest.

I'm using OSX 10.9 yes. Using the 1.8.1 WINE version appears to work.

Well, there you go. Now you know how you can make my life easier, don't you?

I'll keep at it, though, don't worry, I won't force you to upgrade. This thing can run on 10.9, just need to get the build configuration right.

Still having the strange issue with billboard video playing in full screen when I jump into systems that have a billboard on gate, but its much more playable than using cider, and I appreciate that.

I logged in no less than 12 hours ago, WINE wrapper worked fine, but now the latest WINE version results in the client not starting at all. The launcher shows a stop symbol and the bar goes green as if the client is launching, but then it goes back to a state of no client running.

Using OS X 10.10.5, and WINE latest, launcher version 1021473 (according to About EVE Launcher)

If I switch back to WINE version 1.8.1-test, it seems to work fine.

I'll send a copy of the logs from LogLite and the client to you in an evemail.

I need some brave souls to try a new Wine version, especially if you've had problems with any of the previous versions.

In Preferences, Wine options, select Use dev versions and select version wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test. Restart the launcher, let it download the Wine version and see if it starts up. Please report back, either here in the forums or send me logs in EVE mail if it still doesn't work for you.

I'm still struggling with finding a build configuration that works for everybody so your help in testing this is highly appreciated!

Tried your new 1.9.6 test, it seems to work fine on the mac pro in my signature, and on an older one I have with Radeon HD5870 video. Both are running El Capitan 10.11.4

MacPro (mid 2012) dual 6-core Xeon 3.06ghz, 64GB ECC Ram, PCIe-SSD, 2x SSHD, BD, SD, Nvidia Titan Xp. Running macOS Sierra 10.12.4.

It worked!
No Xquartz either.
Also, the odd scrolling behavior went away. (That is, with the older versions, scrolling in the hangar window would sometimes cause it to jump to the contents of a station container. Or scrolling the prices in the market data window would cause it to jump to a different item.)

I'll keep using this one until you say I can switch to something else.

Edit: In the Dev list, wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test is shown twice. I do not know if there is a difference, but I tried the top one.

wine-1.8.1-test: works fine
wine-1.9.5-200-gcf4020b-ccp-daily-6: does not launch. Launcher indicator turns green for a while, and then reverts to blue with no client being launched
wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test: loads client and looks fine as far as I can tell

OK, version wine-1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test works on all machines I have access to, and has been confirmed by a few people to work where the previous one didn't.

I've made this version the default - now we just need to get more people on board!

I'll post an update to the launcher itself today or tomorrow that has settings migration from Cider to Wine.

All previous Wine versions failed with the exception of 1.8.1 (including dev versions).

This latest build (1.9.6-275-g1c97459-test) is successful. Well done.

I appreciate my machine is somewhat long in the tooth though it still performs admirably. Your efforts have improved my screen rate from 20fps to 30fps. Multi client causes a slowdown but not as significant as Cider. Overall response to mouse click and events generally "feels" better.

Hi,

i can confirm that the todays wine version works on my mac with 10.9.5. This system didt work with the older wine versions.

I also tryed the develop launcher version and the settings migration. This works fine excpet that the very first lauch of wine with a profile is allways in fullscreen, but if you change this setting in the client, quit and restart the clients it starts also in window mode.

i will switch the rest of my macs also to wine this evening.

Ps: even the igb seems to work with wine.

Thanks for the great improvents and sucess with the wine support so far.

Hi,

switched the rest of my mac's to wine this evening. 10.11.4 on both systems, Update and profile migration works good except that the first start of a migrated profile is always fullscreen (but it keeps the old resolution setting).

igb works on every client i have tested, not a single chrash / hang on maybe 60-80 jumps, some combat sites, clicking links in chats !!!!!!, etc .

A very large improvement over cider on my systems.

Some additional impressions:

- alt tab from fullscreen eve and back seems a little bit slower (white screen for some seconds) as before.
- i can resize the eve windows and it works and changes the ingame res also, this never worked for me on cider
- conneting a jbl bluetooth speaker need a restart of the client to get game sound out of it
- alt tab sometimes give me icons for the ingame windowlist that i have never seen before, but this is not consitent. (maybe i can remap this key ingame).
- i can now use fullscreen on my imac retina 5k, on cider this crashed after a few minutes.
- the client still did not remember window positions
- i can start multible clients in window / fullscreen and close them without problems

i have now changed 4 Macs to wine: macpro 1,1 amd 5780 gpu 12 gb ram 10.9.5, Macbook retina 2012, 16 ram 10.11.4, macpro 3,1 10gb ram amd 5770 gpu 10.11.4, imac retina 27 5k 32 gb, 10.11.4. Everything works as least as good as before but mostly better.

things to test for me:

- gpu setting / qualtiy in different situations
- 2 monitiors with 2-3 clients
- starting multible clients with the launcher
- fleets / combat
- window Placement / window mode vs fixed window mode

i am very happy with the improvements after several hours of testing. thanks ccp mac team

Ok so at the risk of sounding irritatingly stupid I tried to follow the instructions to turn on the WINE wrapper in the eve client.
Short answer : There is NO such option available in the preferences section of my EVE client.
I am running client at version : 2.2.999545.
I see no option to update the client, I assume that the client will auto download its updates.
Any help guys ?

You are running the old launcher - download the new one from http://secure.eveonline.com/download, install it (it will reuse your shared cache) and migrate your settings over.

See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6227428#post6227428 for more info.
