@Ephiel and Ligraph
Thanks for the support.

@Ghaustyl Kathix
Thank you for your input.

Why would I use a station container over this, though? It sounds like sorting everything into folders is easier and cheaper, and containers (thinks people have already invested in blueprints for) would be obsoleted. Smaller containers would still be useful in ship inventories for a variety of reasons, but station and warehouse containers would literally be useless.

I just think, that, like with everything in EVE, it's good to have options. Both systems could co-exist. I don't see a reason to remove containers, if folders get implemented.

I think a better solution is three relatively simple changes:
- Allow things in containers in stations to show up in the menus that you've listed (get repair quote, create contract, etc.). Maybe make it look like how containers show up in kill mails, where it's clear the item is in a container.
- Allow context menu entries for those things when you right-click on an item in a container. I usually sort dead-space mods I have into a station container, for example, it would be nice if I could repackage it while it's in the container rather than moving it to the main item hanger to do so.
- If you try to repackage a container that has something in it, give a pop-up notification saying so and ask if you want to proceed. It's really annoying when you ctrl+a your inventory and hit repackage and accidentally snag a container as well.

These points would be a good start, but this would still lack some features, that the folder system would provide. For example: conainer in container (subfolders) or customized icons for each folder.

Of course i don't know the database code behind containers and how it all works out behind the scenes, but it's probably easier to implement the folder system (we already have a variant of it in the market window quickbar) than changing the legacy code to make containers more useful.

That's the thing; there are no options there. There is no real choice. There's just a trap. Folders would be strictly better than station containers, unless you can provide some case where station containers would be more useful. If someone bought and started storing things in a station container, they didn't make a choice, they fell into a trap because they spent money on something they didn't need to spend money on and now have to deal with a volume limit. Imposing any kind of limits like this on the folder system would defeat the purpose of adding these folders.

Neither of us have any clue about the code-base behind the game, so neither of us should make any comments on that.
