So, This has been argued between a few people and I. I say it's bannable, they say its not.

Here's the question:

Is smart bombing Jita with either a SOLO battleship or a fleet of battleships (10 or more), a bannable offense?

I personally, don't see the problem as long as you don't crash or lag the node tremendously, but then again care bear tears will come flowing out like Niagara falls and CCP will rage.

NOPE. Not bannable.
During the shooting up of the monument in Jita, I recall a fleet of battleships all named "CCP RIOT CONTROL" or something like it that went around smart bombing everyone.

Funny as hell too.

not bannable unless you somehow manage to avoid ultimately dying yourself in the process.

Avoiding the repercussions of your ebil actions in high sec, ( tanking or avoiding concord after doing the evil deed ) is bannable. Random murder-death-kill in hi sec is not.

correct me if i am wrong but i think i read somewhere in a older thread that there is some sort of safeperimater around the undocking point of a station that prevents smartbombs to work ,
Jita 4-4 would be death by now if this wasn't the case

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

ya you cannot set off smart bombs if you are closer to 5km to the station or gate.

That's kinda dumb. Smart bombs roll at what, 6000m? So sit at 5,001m and BAM you're good, are you not?

The 0m 'bubble' for jita 4-4 requires you to fly pretty far away before it starts counting up.

but that wouldn't stop you from getting some non-regional-gate traffic :)

also, these help with your 5km range problem.

I recall someone did that some time ago and got banned.

Apart from that person, there were at least a few people who jettisoned shuttles and got banned due to lagging the node.

I guess that if you are suspected of doing the SB-ing on purpose to lag or crash the node, you get the boot. If you'r just doing it within "I want to hoard kms" and don't crash the node in the process, you'r all fine. But be warned - it's very easy to crash the jita node, even by accident. You don't know if a freighter isn't carrying a full load of shuttles :D

It's easy to forget that Jita is just another system.
Smartbombing in Jita is just as allowed as it is everywhere else.

Smartbombing in hisec is fine so long as you don't do it for the purpose of crashing the node. There was one guy who did a "Navy Megathron Giveaway" event, once. He broadcasted in local that he would eject from his Navy Mega, and the first pod to claim it got it as theirs. When he was surrounded by hundreds of pods, he then let the smartbombs loose, killed all of them, and watched as Concord showing up to kill him crashed the node. Lots of people raged, nobody got reimbursed, but apparently doing that is not fine anymore.

^^ This made me LOL!!

I would have loved to witness this. I can just see all the pods surrounding the Mega like sperm to an egg. Then... BOOM!!

Looked around, couldn't find a video of that smartbomb trap, but I did find this delicious video of Socratic being fooled into smartbombing a bunch of pods in hisec, instantly wrecking his sec status and making him unable to live in Arnon and troll anyone there anymore.

Hehehe.. actually there's an old CnP thread about Socratic. Some total idiot that likes to annoy people in Arnon.

Someone once managed to have him sit in a 'safe spot' where someone was supposed to show up in a rifter or pod so he could smartbomb them. He got more than he bargained for, because when he turned on the SBs, about 20 pods warped on top of him
and suicided themselves on his smartbombs.

The objective here was to get him to -10 sec status so he couldn't annoy Arnon for a while anymore. It worked verry well.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

It is the video of that that I linked in my previous post. Watch it. It's good for some laughs.
