Hey all.
So I'm very new overall to the game, with a few friends convincing me to sign up, so I did. After about 4 days, I've trained up Gallente and Caldari ships and alot of my basic electronics/engineering stuff, along with drones 1-4 and some operational stuff.
I keep reading all these sources and seeing these top charts and ranks for ships on different sites, and hardly anything ever lines up with the other, so I thought I would come to the better source.

So my question is, what faction path should I take if i want to fulfill a cruiser or battle cruiser role in pvp. Potentially Battleship later for fleet, but for now small gang. Currently I have a Vexor, fitted with everything I can, which is all Tier 1 stuff, with the exception of damage control and my guns and ammo.
Is there any other recommended path or ships that are staple right now? If so, What fittings should i work towards, and if Vexor is the ship for me, then what is an optimal fitting for it?
Thanks in advance!Lol

My recommendations:

Get your guns, launchers and / or drones to tech 2. Then train your fitting skills and general skills that affect all ships up to 4/5 so that you can optimise fittings and help your HP and Capacitor. You really ought to include 4's and then 5's on the navigation skills too.

Perfect flying frigates and maintaining tackle (which is key job for many fleets) to then move on to cruisers when your SP is in a better position.

In FW you can a lot of fun in Frigates and Frigate gangs anyway.

It is amazing how much just a smattering of something such as Kestrels can achieve in the War zone

NB: Thermodynamics 5 is your friend and will be the best skill you ever train.

The Vexor is a jack of all trades. Your fitting should be determined by your engagement; know your enemy. I've seen some incredible 200mm shield rail fits, 1600mm plated with mwd and a rack of electron blasters, full dps fits with buffer or active dual reppers. Seen remote reps in the highs and neuts. Strength is in adaptability and versatility, not in how well you mimic effectiveness (which is often circumstantial) or how well you remember, if experience does not possess ingenuity at its heart.

Fed Navy Comet is the staple in FW.

Then the Algos destroyer.

For low skilled PvP that will own everything. I would suggest the cheap cheap kite Tristan. Medium Shield Extender. And Shield Extender Rigs. You can Focus on getting some drone skills. Use Factions drones if you would like. Until T2 Warriors/Acolytes.

Also if you are insanely cautious and broke. I would suggest finding a build that is directed to catching and killing stabbed new bros. Mostly warp core stabbed catalyst.

Just look for low sec plexes and young pilots camping those plexes. Get a ship that has enough mid slots to fit 2-3 warp scramblers. I fly around in a T1 Maulus frigate with Meta 4 Autocannons.

Hope this helps. And if you want more hands on help please feel free to post or mail me in game.

I also pay for practice if you are finding yourself in need of some extra easy isk.

Pay for kite practice 50m - 100m isk

Tank to T2 asap. Then drones. get it all to lvl 4.

fitting skills such as CPU management, PG management, Weapon upgrades to 5 asap aswell. After that advanced weapon upgrades to 4. These 4 skills will help you alot.

T2 weapons is nice but the skills above should come first.

Thermodynamics 5 is nice but lvl 4 will take you pretty far.

As for role progression. Tackle in all its glory but it just aint for everyone. If you want something else, try E-war frigs. You can be VERY useful if you learn that role properly. And you can get into it right now if you want

Sounds good. Thanks for the help. I'm really enjoying the Vexor. Have my eyes potentially on the Navy Issue Vexor for the drone armor tank role. The damage output seems pretty nice, plus an extra low slot... And I'll add you in game. I would enjoy practicing trying to catch you :3

"incredible 200mm shield rail fits" Sorry, i'm pretty new...Is that saying 200mm rail gun fits, with shielding mid slots? or is there like a shield rail 200mm gun type for armor penetration...

All advice appreciated. I'm planning on keeping the vexor, possibly heading to a navy issue. I understand the Navy issue pretty much cuts out the gun mounts though, and focuses full drone. Perhaps i'll have one of each for different fights?

Yes, a 200mm railgun fit with a large shield extender, some speed and damage mods in the lows. Two adaptive invuln's. It's range projection it's great, speed okay. Need dedicated tackle, but you can always drop an invuln for one. A team fit with high survivability in that it can skirmish pretty well.

VNI got nerfed on the turret hard points. Too much dps.

Right. So, it has 2 active hard points, but 4 high slots, so it has room for maybe...1 hybrid blaster, and a ton of drone mods to beef up my drones. Is it still viable after the nerf?

What do you mean by tank to T2? Sorry, really new. What skills would that encompass?

Probably a spelling error on 'tank'. If you search for the t2 gun mod you can check the requirements and throw those skills up on the queue. Range projection is important and besides, some t2 is cheaper than meta4's. I would also recommend thermodynamics IV until you bump up your support, resist, and navigation skills. Being able to Omnislash *****es means nothing if you can't control range.

Choosing drone layout on the VNI is an interesting topic, but Bouncer's have the greatest range envelope. You also have plenty of fitting for a med cap booster with only two turrets now. Throw some med neuts on. Why not. You can also get yourself some federation navy ogres and use those to brawl. You have options. You can always snipe with sentries too as support dps with some drone link augmenters. Get a fitting app and experiment. It'll save you tons of Isk.

Alright, i appreciate the help. I'll test around with some stuff, and work on my thermodynamics skill.
