Can we get CCP to make this rule official for C&P?

How do we know you are not an alt? How do we know I am not an alt?

Oh GOD: Am I an alt of Goblin? I don't know anymore man. I quit trusting my own alts a long time ago, and I think I forgot which one was my main. Now I am forever banned from the forums.

24. Posting with alternate characters is prohibited in some forum channels.

Some channels such as Corporations Alliances and Organization Discussions do not allow users to post with alternate characters. CCP defines alternate characters as character that do not display the corporation they belong to, who are members of NPC corporations, or who are members of small corporations specifically created for forum posting purposes. Posts by characters filling these criteria will be removed.

Best we can do.

I respect this, but it's a non-written law that would be great if official (for C&P)

It would make tthis particular forum better since you'd know who you're talking to, instead of talking to some npc alt.

If that particular rule could be applied to C&P it would eliminate a significant amount of blatant trolling and general shitposting.

However there's also the minor issue of people occasionally requesting mercenary contracts via alts on the forum. While it's not particularly common it's I'm pretty sure that's totally okay with everyone.

I agree with this! Vimsy logic should be more apparent on C&P

One of these days I'll get around to listing all our court cases here too. It's more fun when all the knowledgeable pilots of C&P enforce this rule by use of trolling and rewarding those who do with useful info Big smile. All BS aside the only people who give advice worth taking is those of us posting with mains

That's why it's up tot he player base to shun their use of alt's in a non rule breaking way Blink

This is a good point. The rash of Gevlin and Veers alts were a riot in their day.

Alts generate 99% of the best content here.

Just because we rag on them it doesn't mean we want them to leave.

I've generated quite a lot of top quality content here over the years with my own alts... allegedly.

I have always found the "Post with your main" rule troubling. Yes, posting with a starter NPC character who is a day old is a blatant attempt to hide from repercussions. However, take this main here... I use Lady the most. She has my kills and is my combat character. And if you decide to hunt me down or Dec my corp because of forum posts, what do I care? It's RvB. We get decced regardless of what is said, it happens. And the reality is, deccinf this character doesn't disrupt my play style. It would be similar to deccing Marmite or any of the other Merc corps or even deccing the CFC or PL. Yes you will get kills, but it doesn't change much for the group decced.

But the notion of posting with your main generally implies that doing such would lead to more trouble, hence people being more respectful and cautious. For me, and many others I would guess, it's actually posting with an alt that could lead to the most trouble. For example, if I post with my hauling alt or my Indy alts that generate my income, that becomes far more problematic. It would not be the end of the world, I can deal with decs. Heck one of the merc corps/pipe and trade hub campers recently just ended a Dec against my Indy corp. They had no kills and I waited till after to restock on cheap frigs. Still, posting with those characters would cause far more problems to me if people opted to constantly Dec them. So in reality, posting with my main is far safer.

Now granted, I'm in RvB which tends to skew things. Still, I can't be the only one in this boat. I mean if say Tora or Kane had a mission alt in their own solo corp to make some extra income and to use when not wanting the huddle and responsibilities of their main, wouldn't it be riskier to post with that alt? Maybe not in their cases, but in others?

So I've just always wondered, should it be a call to "Post with your main" or rather a call to "Post from a position of more risk"? Not as catchy I agree, but it does seem to better match the spirit intended by the call.
