RELEASE OF INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN RELATING TO A COMBAT ENGAGEMENT AGAINST DRIFTERS IN AUNIA 118.03.25-26

In the interests of all capsuleers, I have decided to release as much information as possible regarding the recent combat engagement against Drifters in Aunia. Given the nature of the threat posed by Drifters to capsuleers in particular, I believe this information should be placed in the public domain.

I wish to extend my personal gratitude to the following pilots for their participation in the action:

Other pilots participated, however due to data corruption following an EWAR effect originating from a Drifter Battleship during the course of the action, my data capture is incomplete. I wish also to thank those pilots.

    Brief

    While conducting routine operations under directives 031-55 through 031-57, issued by [REDACTED], operative Finn-Revaie Charaunte was engaged at 118.03.25 22:57 by Drifters in Aunia at an Unidentified Wormhole (type S877) off Aunia III - Moon 1, resulting in the loss of material assets. In accordance with directive 031-57, the operative commenced efforts to organise a countermeasure using the new model 'local threat response cooperative fleet.' A small fleet using a ranged alpha doctrine was formed and fielded within two hours. The target grid was at a Jove Observatory off Aunia IV.

    Aftermath and conclusions

    Despite extreme material asset losses, successful application of the local threat response cooperative fleet model was achieved. Cooperation between pilots far outstripped expectations, and facilitated a timely and tactically effective engagement with the Drifters threat in Aunia. The model has been assessed as an adequate operational tool in providing rapid and short-term resistance to the Drifter threat. The model will be adopted under the counter-measures portfolio. It will be reassessed by the counter-measures working group pending further developments or changes to the continuing Drifter threat, or otherwise on 118.04.26.

    But even if you haven't succeeded, it is still good we have an active group trying strategies against Drifter menace.

    Good evening, Mr. Charaunte!

    How many other pilots were involved, aside from the four you list and yourself? Once you hit seven pilots, aside from certain rather expensive doctrines, I generally recommend fielding RLML Caracals and Scythes. So long as your logistics pilots are on their game, you should be able to limit your loss to a single basic cruiser.

    To explain, despite being rather large ships, the Drifters seem to move and behave like fast cruisers due to their novel propulsion systems. Battleship guns, or even long-range cruiser guns, often have difficulty tracking them effectively. If you use an RLML fit, then the Drifters effectively become slow, chubby frigates for purposes of landing hits, and they're not especially difficult to kill.

    There is, of course, the superweapon, but I'd personally rather lose a Caracal or a Scythe to one than a Raven or Tengu...

    That said, always glad to see another group taking an interest in the Drifters.
