What would you be playing, if EVE wasn't around anymore?

Any games remotely similar? even if not space related?

I would go back to practicing and playing Forged Alliance, for sure. But what I get from Eve is that sense of permanence, that things roll from the cause and effect of days, weeks and years - and not just from a single round. The* fact that a very dedicated and knowledgeable player base has resurrected it and balanced the factions make it even more appealing than when I was in my early twenties.

It's my permanent game too.

Everything else is just a side game, or a fad. Like mass effect; and fallout 4 when I get around to it.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

I already play a lot of other games like Elite, Rebel Galaxy, Grim Dawn and so on. The only thing changing in a Post-EVE world would be me having a bit more money and free time every month. P

I'd be playing other sci-fi or fantasy games, MMO or otherwise. In fact, I have taken breaks from EVE; there are other games out there that have been or are worth playing, not limited to Fallout, SWTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, X3AP, and other series.

I'd say X3AP is kinda like a solo EVE, but different at the same time. Current game in the X series is X-Rebirth, which wasn't all that good when released, and may or may not have been improved (currently in its second expansion).

Anyway, there are other games, EVE is special but not unique.

Well said. The cause and effect going on on an ongoing basis, that's what makes EVE special to me. I'd be interested in hearing if any other games have something similar.

These aren't remotely like EVE, but I play the Close Combat games on the side. Pretty intense and realistic RT tactical wargames. If you make a bad decision, you really feel it.

"Remotely similar"? No. Eve is an unique social experiment, even now, past its prime.

As for the "what to play", well, Elite: Dangerous and Stellaris are a thing.

Eve has taken over almost all my gaming time, if it was not around, I would certainly play all sorts of sci-fi themed games, X3:AP, E:D, and would complain about X-Rebirth and Star Citizen. There are some games I'm looking forward to play though, like Mass Effect Andromeda, the new Doom (need a hardware upgrade for these ...), and of course Thimbleweed Park.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Only space game that really impressed me other than EVE Online was Star Control 2, so yeah... original Star Control 2. (If EVE didnt exist that is). So I would probably replay it again now that I am bit older and understand english much better than in past.

You may be happy to know that SC2 was released on Good ol games.com (gog.com) with visual improvements. I really loved the way that game felt. It was fun, like playing Astroids, except they maneuver and shoot back. But Eve will forever be different than most games. Because you can be bad with a spaceship and still be good at Eve if you are good with people. You can be terrible with people, but still get a hoot from playing. I can't say it's like poker. If poker were like Eve, the companion girls would be the masterminds.

Perhaps they are..

I'de probably do what I do now. Havnt been playing EVE a lot lately, been doing other stuff. Got a in house girlfriend and there's other stuff I want to play when i have the time. Spend more time on the forum then playing right now. Trying to find something to get me back into it.

Elite dangerous can suck my nuts lol. Its a really neat game and I want to play it but its so damn unforgiving even in offline mode that it's infuriating. Plus the way the company handles "expansions" is rediculouse. Been sticking to fallout 4, battlefield 4, and speed grinded my way to 30 in the division, now there's no reason to play it lol. No man's sky will be coming out in a couple of months and that will take up a lot of my time. If you don't know what it is, check it out, they are not exagerating when they say how large the galaxy and planets are. Still doesn't seem possible. Real world sized planets in a galaxy so large that if you discovered a planet every 5 seconds, our own sun would die and burn out before you found them all.

Then sometime GT7 is supposed to come out and support the morphious, so I'll be looking for a PS4 wheel and pedals and puking on the dash of my virtual Ferrari.

I would probably be stuck doing something lame. I've been in and out of Eve for almost 10 years now. Hard to imagine dedicating that amount of time to anything.

Well, If I could play any space-related game I wanted... I would play the old version of Dark Orbit which came along HP computers with Windows XP in 2002. That game was amazing.

I've recently gotten into Path of Exile. Decent Diablo 2 clone, but the PvP leaves a lot to be desired.

X3:TC is probably the closest thing to an offline EVE you're going to get.

Set in space? Check.
Sandbox? Check.
Cool looking ships? Check.
Trade, mine, run missions, be a pirate, build your own stations, and form huge fleets and take over systems? Check.
Obtuse UI with a zillion shortcuts? Check.
Using autopilot can kill you? Check.

For me, Eve isn't around anymore so it's back to reality. That means losing the 64 pounds I've gained while playing this game for over 2 years and buying make up again so I can look decent enough again to get a date and so forth. As for gaming, I'm playing the Witcher series now which is a fresh reminder of what a real game should be like.....You know, a game with character progression, realistic, unchanging game mechanics...........

I'd simply play the games I play besides Eve more often, not sure what would, if anything could really, replace Eve. Beyond that, not much else would change really on my end. I don't really spend enough time in Eve for it to dominate my time of day for it's absence, if it were ever true, to be such a big change of things.

We would have never had the pleasure of the Clear Skies movies, so that would suck to not have seen. I would have missed out on RnK's great movies. Garmonation would never have been a thing, nor any of the other old video compilations from years ago. We'd have missed Dark Ride, Fishbowl, Flash Over, Jalification, Korvorix, Vindication, and the likes.

I'd probably go to the movies more often. Maybe; more movies these days seem like cheap mistakes that should have never made it to the big screens and would have served mankind better to going straight to DVD instead.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
