So, I was happily practicing my scanning skills looking for nice site to mine in known space and oops. I found a wormhole.

How safe am I in my little Catalyst to hop in there and explore solo? Why solo? All those people talking at once in corporation chats - I can't follow the conversations or important threads.

Which then leads to the second question. Is a small 5 person corporation viable? I'd not feel so overwhelmed by the amount of information/random chat being thrown out.

If you do decide to take a peek inside the wormhole be sure to do one thing when you arrive on the other side, bookmark the exit so you can return. It is possible it will collapse when you go through but not that likely in a destroyer.

There are ways to get an idea of where the WH might lead by right clicking on it and checking the code against a list similar to this one. Some worm holes can lead you into low or null sec and could prove dangerous but they can also be a good learning experience too.

If you're interested in learning the ropes you can always find a player corp, I'd be willing to help you out if you want to learn the ropes and earn a bit of cash. NPC corp chat can be pretty busy, the few times I've experienced it I've found it way too busy for my tastes.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Destroyers are anti-frigate ships. Going solo against a bigger ship is not very good idea if you're a new player. And in w-space, there are bigger ships, especially if you are aiming at scanning signatures. You can try and hope noone will be there, but you are pretty much toast if you come to say hello to Sleepers (they are nasty).

WH space is all considered 0.0 and has delayed local, meaning that no one shows up unless they say something after you arrived.

Because of this WHers have developed the "dscan reflax" where they press dscan every 5 seconds or so to ensure that nothing doesn't sneak up on them.

When you get to a WH you won't see anything in it besides the sun, the planets, and moons. Everything worth doing in a WH has to be scanned out.

As a starting toon WH can be quite dangerous, it may be inhabited by other players (like mentioned before, local isn't reliable) and also the WH rats (Sleepers) are much harder then normal rats you find in known space. I say, yes you can explore WH as a new character, but be prepared to be killed as most WH require a decent amount of skills and usually a better ship to be done succesfully.

On small corps, yes 5 man corps are totally viable, keep in mind a 150 man Player runned corps usually has less spam-chat in the corp channel over the NPC corps as the NPC corps are more 'general' populated whereas the player corps usually have players who have the same kind of interests in EVE.

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

Second Xercodo, Bookmark both sides of any WH. Usually I find WH with a dedicated probe boat with bonuses (my skills for scanning are laughable) and a cloak. Doesn't have to be CovOps but it's easier if it is.

Find hole, BM, jump in hold cloak, BM, then I fly to the sun to do any more scanning. If I want to run the sleepers I go back for a BC and a couple friends.

D-SCAN, tattoo this on yourself somewhere.

WH space is both some of the most dangerous, and yet safest, space around. It's null without a local-- so cloaked up at a safe in a WH is about as off the grid as it gets. But then, you don't know if there are other people just like you there too.

Not to state the obvious but...don't enter a WH without a probe launcher on whatever you are flying. I probe with a, uh, Probe. But fight Sleepers in an armor tank BC. The BC still has a probe launcher just in case. Recently there was a thread on here from someone lost in a WH without a probe launcher-- that's a sad, lonely cry from somewhere just out of sight...............

DO IT! Mostly because it'll be fun and you'll learn something (even if you asplode). Catalyst probably isn't the thing to go exploring with. I'd grab a frigate, the one for your race that gives a scanning skill bonus, a probe launcher, and some probes. Keep it cheap, I'm guessing you don't have a lot of isk. Then jump in. Like someone else said, bookmark the exit, and then see what you can find. Don't hang around hostile POS's for long, same with any sites you scan down or sleepers will kill you.

Normally I'd say don't talk in local. Like someone else said, it's on delayed mode, so you can't see who's in system until they talk (which means as soon as you do, anyone in there will know). However, you being a new player, and me expecting you to get blown up (WH space is harsh) you might get something out of it by introducing yourself and asking about wormhole life. Then again, maybe they'll be the suspicious type and hunt you down. Don't know until you try though!.

A 5 person corp is defiantly viable. It's actually really good in some ways. My last corp was really small. We did stuff like live in wormhole space. By the end of my stay in that corp we all knew each other about as well as you can via an MMO, I'm pretty sure every one of us either had directors roles, or could have had them if they had just asked. It's very tight knit if you get the right people. Now I wouldn't start out by giving everyone roles like that, it took a while to get to that point, just saying there are advantages. Even now, well over a year after that corp disbanded, we still all keep in touch via our own little channel.

Anyway, go live a little and see what's in that wormhole :P
