The Vargur and the Wallet

So I'm sitting here, failing at EFT warrioring (only have it leveled to 2) and I'm faced with a problem.

I'm trying to find a way to fit out a Vargur with a decent amount of damage mods and run a permaboosting tank without raping my wallet. From what im seeing the only way to do that is to spend a bil on a DS booster.

What I'm looking for is thoughts on the Vargur's damage output/damage needed to tank. Is it worth it to spend the money on the booster, or does its damage output make a XLII booster and a cap booster perfectly viable?

Currenty working with a XL/cap booster maelstrom with BS at IV (skilling to 5 atm)

1) A Vargur not a Mach?

2) Against which rats?

3) Pulsing a cheaper e.g. Pith XL booster makes it pseudo-stable at a lower averaged rep amount, as well as having that burst tank for when you've capped up from the last wave and trigger the next.

That and there's rigs for booster cap reduction, rigs & implants for cap in general, and of course some low grade crystals + blue pills to hand might be cheaper than a single booster mod.

I don't think any of the Marauders need a permatank fit for lvl 4's.

I know my Paladin doesn't (well, except on Gurista missions, but that's only because it's near perma jammed and can't apply any damage when I forget to fit ECCM).

The Vargur should easily put out enough DPS to not need a permatank at all.

1) A vargur as i have 0 Gallente skills

2) Primary sansha/blood, Angels and guristas

3) Ill have to try that in eft/game when i hit BS5

I dont have crystals, but i may have to look into/invest in those as well

If it's for L4s, I used a pure T2 fit with a med cap booster II, an XL shield booster II and two T2 invulns - never even got close to die (Marauders V).

I think the way that can be done is with CCC rigs and yes, a faction shield booster. I hate factions stuff though. I recently put one together with 3 t2 hardeners and 2 shield hardening rigs t1 in rig slots. a few tracking enhancers and a few gyros still have room to fit on the bottom pushing my dps real close to 1000. Ones a republic fleet since I had LP.

I put a medium cap booster and a fancy serp tracking computer so I have some flash for incursions. I'm using the range script most of the time. My range feels like a mach. I think its 77falloff with phased which is range penalized ammo.

I haven't had my shield below 50% and then only cause I usually run a few pulses when the get to 70. Sometimes i have to run a few more cycles for agro and forget and my cap dips to around 50 before it catches my attention. I can put a charge in if I want but most likely the heavy dps is dead, the shield is at 100% and i can ride out the rest on hardeners.

Now I haven't done all the toughest missions yet. Worst was some gurrista jamming so I ended up with a couple eccm mods and adjusted my hardeners too but long story short, I don't think you need the permatank. I haven't been scrammed yet but I'm thinking I can clear out the dps faster than my tank dies anyhow.

This is my T2 Fit.

I always use Cap stable fittings, lots of distractions around... :)

More Shield, Swap a Cap recharger for a Shield boost Amplifier and a Gyro for a Capacitor Flux Coil II.

More Drone Range swap a tractor for a Drone Link Augmentor

More Safe Swap the salvager for a NEUT and also swap a gyro and the Flux coil for 2xPDS II (PG Problem)

More can be done.. it's a Minmatar Ship... Lots of fittings possible.

For even more DPS go swapping Gyros II for Faction Gyros (Republic or Domination)
Also go changing the Tracking Enhancers for Faction

I used a Pithum C-Type medium shield booster in Minni space for level 4s. It's cap stable with the salvagers off. It's also the bare minimum of tank I would use. Meaning, if you manage your triggers and understand that gank is tank, you'll do fine.

However, if you're looking for a "walk away from the keyboard at moment's notice and not lose your ship" setup, then this isn't the fit you're looking for.

The Pitum C is going for ~350M or so, last I checked.
