Drone kiting Tristan for level 1-3 security missions

I managed to use this fit (admittedly with some skill injectors for T2 drones/weapon upgrades IV/social III/connections III) to get standings for level 4 SoE missions in my first few days. I've not tried a level 4 yet because I'm certain I don't have the DPS. This is with no extra fitting skills:

High:
- Drone Link Augmenter I

Med:
- 5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive (cap stable)
- Medium Azeotropic Restrained Shield Extender

Low:
- 2x Drone Damage Amplifier II (T1 version will do for level 1-2 missions)
- Type-D Restrained Overdrive Injector

Rigs:
- 2x Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
- 1x Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Drones:
- 8x Hobgoblin II ('Integrated' Hobgoblins can be used until you get T2 drones)

Orbit at 40km as soon as you land on grid and primary anything with a web. Some of the 'kill them all' type missions take a while, but as your drone skills improve it gets better and it's great for picking off mission targets at range to save time/effort. It's half the cost of a cruiser hull and lets you build up LPs for +3 implants while you remap for Intelligence/Memory and train your core skills.

You should change the thread title. To something more standings related.

I'm not sure what you are saying.

And I hate the kiting Tristan.

What push said and what is your question?

Sounds more like that needs a proper translation:

I noob, I haz credit card and I vet now with 4 days. I make level 4 now. I won EVE.

Damn, you're bitter.

I don't think it was a question, more like someone figured out a kiting fit with drones. Looks somewhat similar to one some people suggested to run pirate epics cheaply. Except that one had better application and active tank because of a couple of gimmicks associated with running particular missions in those arcs.

"Drone tristan"

That's quite a pleonasm...

Like Barrogh said, this thread is meant as a way to share a useful fit/technique I found to help new players get their standings up.

Go try it in lvl 3 The Blockade, then lvl 4 and come back with the results Blink

I got a chance to try 'The Blockade' against Blood Raiders this morning. It involved a lot more than "orbit at 40km" though! :)
I had to pay careful attention to the spawn triggers and take out the web tower/frigates quickly (EVE-Survival really helped me out).

I'm not going to attempt a level 4 solo, there's no way i'll be able to break battleship tanks with 100dps. Do you ever get battleship rats in level 3 missions?

There are level 3 missions with battleships but those are the low(est) bounty ones and not really scary. If you did missions against mercenaries and you shot at those 250.000 isk machariels you will see the are not hard to shoot down.

The level 3 blockades are one of the harder ones and I would suggest a Drake (excellent noobie mission boat) but for a level 4 blockade you really should fly a well trained battleship.

I do not say it is impossible because I did it once in a Harpy it just takes a while and you might run out of the mission bonus timer.

No, I am pissed, like really pissed.

When I came to New Eden a decade ago, everything I did made sense. Every time Aura told me that I had completed a skill level I could feel the progression and had something to look forward to when the timer for the next level ran down.

Many before me and now many with me said that nobody needs to "fill a gap".

But the kids complained that they need to fly zee titan on day one. Guess what kids, we all did train the very skills you have to, deal with it.

Here I thought I stumbled into a sandbox that would keep me busy trying out new stuff every day for at least 20 years and not 5000$$ and a week..

Mission running is not about "I do mission in weakiest ship possible". It is about how quick you can run the mission. Your Tristan is able to do most L3 misssion does not mean you will not dosame mission much quickier with better ship (battlecruiser, HAC, T3 ship or even Machariel)

What's more important, if you are flying ships with less punch than it's considered optimal for missions in question, it's often more efficient to run one level lower, but do them much faster. This is especially true for standing gains, but also helps with rewards as well.

I agree the best isk/hour is to blitz missions, and I can get better isk/hour with level 2 missions. What this setup allows me to do (with most level 3 missions) is to get a good orbit then let my drones do the work while I write my lesson plans. It's not good isk/hour, but it is good isk for the effort involved and with a low cost to boot.

This game is about having fun. If coming up with clever and new ways to run a mission is fun for you, go for it.

And don't touch Google, that ruins it.

Thanks Shallanna!

I almost found the limit of the fit today - Portal To War (2 of 5). I kept getting webbed on the warp-in, so I couldn't get out of web range before my shields broke and I needed to warp out.

I squeezed on a Small C5-L Emergency Shield Overload (30 seconds of cap with it on), hoping that would keep me alive long enough to get out of web range. Luckily it worked, and I found the booster useful later in the mission while I was orbiting. I think I'll keep it, it provides some flexibility.

It sounds like you found the limit to me, but you did not go over it.
Another option that would get around the 30 seconds cap issue would be the small ancillary shield booster.
It uses 25tf CPU instead of 21tf, power grid needs are the same, it boosts for 51 hp per cycle instead of 31 hp.
The down side to these is they require a small cap charge which increases costs a bit and they add to the management task while using them watching and reloading cap charges. The 60 second reload time could be problematic as well if you ran out of charges at a bad time.

A few other options to consider.
The Republic Fleet Small Booster would give you a little less HP gain but it would has a lower cap cost.

The Caldari Navy Small Shield Booster uses the same amount of cap but repairs a little more HP every cycle.

Hey Donnachadh, I guess you're right. If I had to change the fit, then the original one found it's limit. My CPU is maxed out, so only the faction shield boosters will fit. Thanks for the info. :)
