I've just started participating in Gallente FW. I'm seeing that the frigate most preferred is the Federation Navy Comet. Is there any specific reason for this?

It's F'ING AWESOME!!! And affordable. Run one offensive plex and turn in the LP for a Fed Navy Comet.

It's as versatile as a Tristan, faster, has higher dps, and an extra low. And it's cheap if you're Galmil. It's like having a chicken coop and eating enchiladas every day after you throw eggs at your enemies.

Proliferation of losses of the popular 150mm Rail Gun version of the vessel, piloted mainly by poorly skilled Gallente Militia pilots, has resulted in it being fondly given the moniker of "Poo Chariot" by low sec residents in the Kurala constellation of Black Rise.

Don't be the next Poo in the Chariot! Lol

Seriously, it's a good frigate and you could do far worse. Oreb's comments are spot on even if his food analogy is a little worrying. P
Blaster fit has great DPS. Rail fit has nice DPS and good projection. It's fast and doesn't rely 100% on cap to apply some damage.

You could say the Poo Chariot was broken if you didn't know better. Blink

because it's a damn fine ship that's easy to get into and is very, very cheap compared to other frigates of the same caliber?

We don't want that sort of posts in our Intergalactic Summit either, so you keep them.

Also, can't go wrong with the Police Issue Navy Comet. Woop, woop!

It is the ship that all others are checked against. When I fit a frig, I think to myself "can I beat a comet in this", and adjust accordingly.

It's that good.

This is actually, sadly true. In most cases my benchmark hypothetical opponent is the ancillary hull tanked rail comet, and the answer is usually no.

The comet is also eminently engageable - people will try to fight you in T1 frigates often enough and almost always in other navy hulls when in reality a properly fit and flown comet is more dangerous than several of the AF'S and pirate hulls and by far the best navy hull.

It has a great tank, and it's fast. Add to that the ability to effectively project damage at every range with a scram kite variant and the versatility to surprise opponents with blaster or MWD kite variants. I'd fight a dramiel, cruor or any other navy hull before a comet.

People still aren't as afraid of it as they should be.

380 brained with two 5% DPS implants, stacked with voided polarized turrets, then Overheat ALL the THINGS1!!

Let's see the fit

Let's not get people so scared they nerf a good ship. Even an Incursus can hit 245dps with Neutrons with navy am and just two mag stabs.

With that kind of fitting even an Incursus can seem scary.

Was an old fit fixed up a little. That adaptive shouldn't be there with the polarized. Down to 415dps, but still stupid high numbers with unrealistic range application ammo. This is actually pretty ****ing scary still, though, imo.

I love flying dual-prop Dramiels myself and I've learned the expensive way that Comets are a very tough fight, along with Dual Web Hookbills.

Then again, perhaps I should stop trying to solo in a ship fit for fleet tackle.....

I don't know too many things that can dual prop as well as a Dramiel. Another great ship, solo or not.

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm new to Faction Warfare and I'm just trying to get started. Currently waiting to join Aideron Robotics, I see their fittings don't list the comet. I've actually bought the Intaki Syndicate skin for it. :)
