Good evening everyone,

I'm sorry if this is not the appropriated channel but i just came back after 2 years hibernating afk. Then i went to check PLEX prices at EVE website and i see its 17.96 USD. Converting to Brazilian coins, it becomes around 70 bucks!

Question is: Is this is? Cause it's becoming crazy high for a monthly paid game!

Hoping for hope.

It's really cheap if you convert it to Bitcoin.

Cool

This is a common problem with offering the same service all over the world. They need to keep the price consistent accross the board though with very few variations.

The reason for this is that if they were to adjust the Brazilian coins the be their equivalent of $20, people in other countries would just pay for the game in that currency using VPNs, Bank accounts in that country, etc. This is sort of like how people use to be able to watch banned/filtered content on Netflix by acting like they were from another country.

It is also easier from an accounting and overhead perspective if everything converts back to roughly the same value.

The only exception to this rule (that I can think of) is something like VAT taxes where the value of the services is still the same, but there is an additional tax on it.

Or they just don't have control on how our respective currency play out in the market. My sub jump up and down like the CAD$ and there is nothing I can do about it, except not subbing.

I think the BItcoin was sort of a joke, but not sure.

Remember, the "Value" of what you own does not change if you convert to another currency (in the short term at least).

Taking $20 USD and converting to bitcoin is still technically worth $20 USD. If you were to freeze a perfect market in place for a moment and look at the converstion rates, techincally, you would be able to convert $20 USD to Euros, to bitcoin, to other currencies, but in the end, you would always convert back to $20 USD. Now IRL, you can currency trade and make money on changes in currency valuation over a period of time. Heck even if you were to freeze the current market in place and look at the rates, you would probably be able to find one way to convert currency around to come out ahead. However, in theory the market would adjust to prevent this.

As far as bitcoin, it has had a very volatile history. A $20 investment before 2014 would have been worth between 900-1000 in 2014 depending on your timing.

You should see the exchange rate for Zimbabwe.

18 USD = 6515 Zimbabwean Dollar.

They use 18 USD as the benchmark for everybody as, as explained, otherwise people will just use a detour to pay the game in the cheapest country.

AND...it would be impossible to keep track of all the prices, as currency exchange rate changes with every seconds, so they would have to adjust all the difference currencies daily.

So they took the easy and generally accepted way...

The game is "x" USD / month, and then you just have to convert that amount of money to your regional currency.

If it is too much, that is personal.
I think the sub for EVE is great, a typical night in the local bar is more expensive and only last a couple of hours instead of 30 day.

But that is my personal opinion.

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

You can try to go the other way: earn enough isk in game and buy plexes from those with more money and less isk.

PLEX is the same price everywhere.

If the conversion in your country makes it prohibitively expensive, blame it on your economy, not CCP.

One solution is to get off your lazy ass and run for office instead of complaining in a game forum. It isn't going to get fixed unless you speak with actions instead bellyaching here.

This is Eve.

Shouldn't he be blaming everyone else's economy instead?

yes that is a logical and completely unreasonable answer

don't make enough money run for president

In niger 1MB internet is 332 USD and a game sub would be 7500 safar.

Being president would not make your money worth more, or has nothing been learned here in the US about printing more money?

No but being president could enable you to change your country policy to get it out of it's economic hole which would drive your currency much close to parity with USD.

The real message here is that CCP is not responsible for all of those price difference so whining at them does nothing. It's not CCP's duty to offer what amount to a luxury product cheaper in some country just because that country's economy is not as good as "benchmark" nation like the US.

If the price difference is too high, then stop consuming the luxury product that EVE is.

If a PLEX came 20 Brazilian Reals, guess where I'd be buying them! It's unfortunate, but there may not be a good way to make it cheaper for countries with weaker currencies, without effectively making it cheaper in USD or EUR as well.

Not that I'd have an issue with playing Eve for 5 bucks a month, but I suppose CCP need money to operate.

Lol if eve was 5 bucks a month, I would probably just increase the number of accounts I use just so I did not have to change a line item in my budget.
