Ninja Salvaging seen alot about it on you tube. Is it legal or am i going to get my ass handed to me if i try it?

You won't get Concorded, I don't think, but your karma will suffer, and you will probably come back as an insect for the next cycle.

My personal opinion? There are more ethical ways to make a living.

It is perfectly legit game mechanic, is very profitable, good probing training, and a lot of fun.

It is legal (i.e. you won't go to jail for it).

It is also allowed under the game rules (i.e. you won't get banned for it).

It does not incur a global criminal countdown (i.e. CONCORD won't blast you out of the sky for it).

It is not considered aggression (i.e. the person who killed the NPCs you are salvaging cannot attack you without CONCORD response).

Kehega Ameilden's Ninja Salvaging Guide is a bit long in the tooth now, but worth reading.

Not much has changed as far as missions go. The guide is still applicable.


Anyway, the only thing you need to worry about is the distinction between looting and salvaging. If you loot, the missionrunner and his player corp can shoot you for 15 minutes. If he shoots you then you can retaliate, but if you're new you probably lack a good ganking ship.

If you stick to salvaging, however, he can't touch you

If "stealing" really bothers you then probe the mission ship down but wait till they leave the area before you salvage the wrecks. Most mission runners don't bother looting since you make more cash running another mission.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

I for example abandon my wrecks when I know I won't show up to loot/salvage them, had some days that a ninja salvager jumped in and I even contacted him to tell him to wait 1 sec so I could abandon all my wrecks at once.

But, some mission runners leave the site to take a salvager (ship) from the station and come back for loot and salvage. You can wait 5 minutes to make sure it's not the case or ask the mission runner on local what he/she is planning to do with all those stuff. If you start looting at once, this dude can warp-in with his not very polite friends in their big ships with big guns and hungry, metal eating, screaming drones.
You can still salvage wrecks though. Wrecks have no owner, only the stuff inside. When you salvage a wreck, it's shiny contents will be placed in a can, so no worries. Unless you mix up the buttons or do some other stupid thing.
Also, make sure the guy actually finished his mission. He can warp only to fix his ship, change it or switch ammo/equipment. He won't be pleased to see you fiddling with wrecks when he comes back.
If in doubt, use local.

J'Poll is right. Abandoning wrecks is a clear signal for ninja salvagers. Unfortunately, not all mission runners do that.

And if you actually talk to some of the mission runners in a system, they may well invite you to salvage missions if they're not interested in doing it themselves. I sometimes run missions quickly, or 'blitz' them, mainly for standing with a corporation or faction. In that case I usually don't bother with the salvage or loot so if someone wanted to jump in and earn some isk cleaning up a mission I'd willingly abandon the wrecks so they could profit.

Talking to folks in local may be of use.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...
