I'm running a year old custom home built gaming pc and originally used windows 7. had no issues running eve online. then upgraded to windows 10 and now eve online seems to cause my entire pc to freeze and become unresponsive. it's random and can happen after a few minutes or half a day running the game. and happens regardless of what I'm doing in game. forcing me to hard boot my pc. the pc did have some freezing issues initially with out eve after the upgrade to 10 but those were largely removed after various patches to the OS. is this a known issue? is there a fix? is it something being worked on? help plz! here are my rig's specs.

Hey there,

I am no expert, but I think you are partly right. I was playing EVE with Windows 10 installed not too long ago when my computer froze up and my hard drive crashed. My suspicion is it's more of an issue with Windows 10 than it is with the actual EVE client itself.

I had Windows 10 installed since it became available worldwide last year, and I had noticed it was doing exactly what you are describing. It has done this just after booting up and logging in, or either running certain games (such as EVE). No other way to remedy it but to a hard shut off and then start it back up. Eventually, this kept happening too much where one day it actually crashed my hard drive completely, while playing EVE. Very frustrating, I know. Luckily I still have my Windows 7 disk, so I just reinstalled 7 and everything is fine again. I suggest you do the same and KEEP BACKUPS. I learned the hard way.

I think I may have found the problem... last week the last thing I did was run a few combat sites and my pc froze 5 times within 1 hour.. before I was only doing light work maintaining my PI and indy, doing research agent missions.. and it was intermittently freezing my pc once or 2x a day.. but today I found a thread on a different site that referenced direct x as the problem with win 10.. so today I set eve to run with direct x 9. and did a lot of active graphics intense things.. no freezing issues after this.. I also noticed that before this change eve was causing my processor to run in the 150 degree Fahrenheit range. since I set it to direct x 9 it runs steady between 98 and 102 degrees F max... in short windows 10 + direct x 11 = overheating processor. and that causes the freezing. or at least that's what it appears to be.. if it freezes again my hypothesis will be proven wrong if not...
