Logged off last night just fine in jita

Logged in today and all my settings are gone.

I was using the old launcher.

I went to help chat and was instructed to install the new launcher and import my settings over "migrate"

I did this successfully.
it imported my settings which are now the default settings plus a few minor changes I had made prior to the migration.

pls help.

my settings are the product of five years of tuning and I have no desire to start from scratch.

id rather had logged in to find all my sp gone than the settings..

not to mention all the chat channels I was in.. some of em invite only.
some that require passwords long forgotten...

all hotkeys reset too..

let me just point out I didn't keep a single default hotkey for combat stuff... all custom.

You probably want to reinstall EVE every so often anyway - it takes up more space every day...

That said - one day perhaps there could be a 'preference' file we could back-up.

maybe donate to mr hyde.

bug report was closed in minutes after I submitted it.
they said it wasn't a technical issue... like hell!
I didn't overwrite my own settings ffs.

Assuming you're using Windows, your settings are located here: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE - Make sure to have "hidden files and folders" disabled in Windows.

There will be some folders in there, named in lowercase, like "c_program_files" etc. The biggest of these folders (right-click, properties, size) will be the main settings you've had for 5 years, should be several GB in size. The newest of these folders will be the new settings the new launcher created.

Copy the files from the biggest folder into the newest folder.

You should now have your settings back.

Had to re do my settings 3 times recently

Beta launcher ate them twice and then my hard drive fried itself taking them with it.

Suck it up and redo.

Certainly...

A good friend of mine (I haven't yet upgraded/changed to the new launcher and was talking about it) recently deleted EVE entirely from his PC and reinstalled straight after - difference in disk usage - 20Gb!

So he's been encouraging me to do the same.Blink

ok. so I tried your method.

in that file I have
c_evetest_singularity
c_evetest_tranquility
c_program files (x86)_ccp_eve
c_program_files_(x86_ccp_eve_tranquility
c-programdata_ccp_eve_sharedcache_tq

x86ccp_eve_tran is 6gb created in 2013.

everything else is in the mb range.



x86ccp_eve_tran (the 6gb one) is the one I have linked to the new launcher. its default settings plus some minor tweaks..

so.. this is a bust?

really angry that my bug report was answered in less than an hour and closed "not a bug" they said.

I'm really confused how this isn't a bug.

a recap;
I was usning old launcher when this happen.
I was directed to download the new launcher but that still didn't work.

all of my alts settings are gone too now :/

I never changed the launcher or reinstalled EVE unless I changed my PC/OS. Last time I changed OS was about 2-3 years ago. Never had any trouble.

You can just backup the .dat files in LocalSetting/.../CCP/EVE/drive_eve_[tq|sisi] from time to time.

You can also copy one core_char_123456789.dat file (where 123456789 is you char ID) over another (other char ID) to copy window layouts and stuff that is stored per character.

You might have spent 5 years tuning them, but you can probably remember most of them in 5 minutes or less.

As for testing them, run a mission or two before you go fight people and see if everything does exactly what you think it does.
