A pIlot's tale of woe.

This IEEE tale, begins as many of them do, with an intrepid IEEE agent coasting through high security space, and finding to their surprise, people still mining into jettison canisters. A rare thing these days with all the concord changes, the suspect mechanics, and other various changes.

But the anger felt by miners at having their ill placed ore taken from their possession, and the decisions that come from that anger are often poor ones.

After seeing two whole jettison canisters get flipped into other cans and cargo holds, a particular mackinaw pilot decided to put violence upon the intrepid IEEE agent, resulting in the destruction of a mining vessel.

An awful lot of stuff. To be more efficient about it, the agent in question went to acquire a Miasmos. Because frankly hauling things of any size in a Nereus is quite painful.

Arriving back in Avernon, the pilot in question is flagged suspect, seems he has decided to retrieve his ore in an Orca. Not the smartest of moves. I miss him at the belt, and proceed to camp him in, in a Nereus again. Wonder of wonders, the pilot decides to undock while still suspect flagged.

Anyone who knows of the combat abilities of haulers, knows they have the damage potential of an angry wet noodle. So I helpfully webbed the orca into warp. And chased him through two systems before catching him on a gate. Needless to say, the Orca very, very slowly succumbed to its fate. The pilot logging out at some point during the ordeal.

While the orca was busy succumbing to its fate, I asked for an assist from like minded friends, who thought it was in poor judgement that the pilot in question logged off. Because as we all know, if you log off with an aggression timer, you might emergency warp off, but you will sit in space, quietly and peacefully awaiting the slaughter of your current vessel. Or pod as the case may be.

A friend with combat probes and a few moments later. (Plus 30 seconds to lock a pod in a hauler)

This has been a cautionary tale, that the IEEE rides again, that jettison canister mining is dangerous and that shooting at the ore thieves is a very, very poor idea. No matter what they are flying, they are usually prepared to create new anal orifices, and you being in a mining vessel or some mission running fit ship, are likely to die a horrible death. Should someone steal your ore, let them win. Let it go. Or else you may be the subject of a tale of woe.

Good tale, but I disagree with the message.

This is probably the most vivid, interesting, and memorable event this pilot has experienced.

You helped him find out that this game isn't about mining. If there is someone good around who will teach him to bring a fight, perhaps this will be enough to inspire retribution... And a foray into pvp which is truly the heart of Eve.

I wish we could talk all the "dock up and hide" teachers into shutting-up and convince everyone to just play.

It doesn't matter that you lose something as long as you're playing. Avoiding pvp is like living in the tutorial.

I'm not suggesting they 'dock up and hide' but if you are going to try and kill the ore thief, do *not* do it in your mining vessel or in a mission ship. Unless of course, you've pvp fit the sucker...like so:

Just re-read the rules since they have changed. You're supposed to bowdlerize the mails to avoid embarrassing and trolling people. It is in the sticky. Perhaps it needs to be updated?
