self destruct notice icon

been thinking about this and i think it may be a good idea.

when in combat and an enemy ship is getting deep into armor or structure, many will self destruct to deny the
"pirates" from getting a killmail.

this is a good way to avoid death.. but the notice that the attackers some times does not even display or is so brief
that the ship just goes pop and everyone is looking around asking.. what just happened??

what i propose would be an icon just below the target icon on the hud that clearly shows that the targeted ship has initiated self destruct and has the 120 second timer showing time left until it explodes.

that would give the attackers time to overload guns.. and may cause more people to actually fight to the end and not just say bah i give up.

*clap* Bravo! Came in expecting "Ye olde Whine" about self destruct, and left surprised someone wanting just a more clearly shown indication of self destruct being active.

also a killmail should be generated.

FYI - all you bears who look for threads complaining about the SD mechanic are clearly those who use it when caught out.

Why troll those who wish to see km's

this is my first time i speek so agressively STFU about self destruct its fine its suck for everyone deal with it there are much more topics that need addressing like attracting new players and keeping old players and evolving to keep the pioneer it has alwayse been and if eve remains the best in time it will steal the player base of other games.

......,,,,,,,,,,,???????!!!!!!!:::::::;;;;;;;;&&&&&

Some punctuation for you. And please use your shift key on occasion.

You convert new players into subscribers and keep old players by polishing a mature game. Eve is not, at it's heart, a content driven game, it has a laughably small amount of scripted content, and were it a normal MMO it would have folded long ago.

So, yes EVE needs to attract new players and keep old players, but that's not something you can directly apply Dev time to. So you try to figure out what new players and old players want.

Having set a cunning trap for an "experienced" player, what newbile likes seeing all their work go up in a puff of self destructive smoke, denying them both a killmail trophy and loot. Similarly experienced players find it annoying when a fight is going well enough (for once) that you're considering not picking up the BatPhone to tear the trapped Cap/Super, and then you see the message that means it's time to light the Cyno and hope your Batphones can lock and apply DPS fast enough. Or worse, find out that you missed the notice because your damage notices cleared it, and suddenly the ship explodes at half armor.

Self Destruct isn't a Fun mechanic (useful as it is). The happiest person in a situation where a ship self destructs in combat is the pilot who just lost his ship, and they're probably not very happy.

If we go logically, it should, yes, generate a killmail. I mean, the pilots who attacked him are still the cause of his loss. If he decided to give up, that means his ennemy have won and should be credited for it like in all other combat situations in the game.

Now, on the topic of loot, if the pilot do self destruct, that means that he destroyed everything in his ship (both modules and cargo) and nothing should drop, except the wreck, of course.

Why call troll when someone disagrees with you? I don't think you should get a KM either, you didn't earn it and I fully support someone's action in trying to deny you that mail.

As far as the OP is concerned I'd say yes, sounds like a good idea.

I like the idea of a self destruct icon.
