Following the move of the Tranquility server cluster on Feb 29 to a new data center and new hardware, we are delighted to give you a detailed insight of the whole operation.

This was the biggest assignment to CCP's Ops team so far, and now an equally exhaustive dev blog full with tech talk, numbers, and graphs is available.

Learn more about the hardware upgrade, the cluster move, fallout and settlement in CCP Gun Show's latest blog Tranquility Tech III is ready for you!.

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

Cool. Now, if only the new server would actually improve the game performance. I have not had as many disconnects and server socket closes as I had since the switch to TQ3/the new data center. The minigame performance in data/relic sites is worse than even in the first couple of weeks after their introduction. I have lags all over the place, from stuck chat messages to ship commands not getting through to jumpy performance where a command takes ages to get back to me and then I suddenly end up after on the other side of a gate or in warp or somewhere else or disconnected. Nerdy stuff is all nice and dandy, but how about you check that the performance of the piece is not worse than before?

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Before the naysayers enter, as someone in the IT field, let me say congrats. That is some very cool tech, a very thorough recap and both interesting and exciting to see. You should be congratulated on doing it with minimal impact to your end users as well as a demonstrable improvement in performance.

I have said this before. I am not a very "techie" guy. I know enough to make myself dangerous ( and stupid ) with IT stuff. What you guys did, in the time span you did it in, was absolutely amazing. Even a lay- person can see the dedication you folks have to your craft and the Eve community. Great read. Great Job!

Great job!

Could this upgrade have anything to do with "socket closed" disconnects I started getting every 10-15 minutes? I can hardly play now. My ISP says my connection is flawless. And my ping test results are excellent.

Holy Sh*t... That was an impressive write-up.

Thanks to all the OPs folks who put in countless hours to get the switchover done!

Excellent work.

You're in the same boat as a corp mate of mine... He drops connections it seems nearly 5 times in a 2 hour span.

ISP has run line tests with no faults found during line investigation, but he's been advised via his tickets its his ISPs fault.

Frustrating to say the least.

First of all.

Great Job CCP Ops team and all who were involved in the move to Tech III. It is a great achievement.
Very well written dev blog.

2nd

Socket closures.
A number of my corp mates (myself included) have seen a significant increase in socket closures since the move to tech III. The problem started on the same day as the move. However on the same day a number of undersea cables were damaged on route from Australia (our home) to Europe so it may be the damage that is causing the problem.

The issue (for me and some others) I have no packet loss shown in pingplotter. As soon as I idle my character (eg do not move.. I just sit still at POS) then my character will socket close within 5-10ms. If I move my ship I do not socket close. If I log on a 2nd character the idle character will socket close within 5-10 mins.

Thread on issue - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=463388&p=11 On page 11 you can see some people are seeing some patterns to the problem.
