Step 1: Hulk fleet + combat support.
Step 2: Whoops, leaked op.
Step 3: Surprise, gankers!

In high sec this is incredibly difficult to do. I mean nothing stops you from doing it, but it is boring ordeal, the guard has to be on screen all the time and he has to be fast enough to prevent a gank. Ganks are often over in seconds unless we are talking about now dead hyperdunking. How exactly would you imagine this working?

Low sec is another story and just for a reference, we have guy who uses almost nothing but skiff for pvp. That battle skiff is approaching 40 kill marks already. We also used to bait in combat fitted mining ships in low when we had nothing to do. That kind of thing is fun, especially with carriers.

It´s nice to see indy changing into pvp.

Fly tanked Macks and Procs.

Cheaper than hiring security.

It should solve a lot of your problems.

Sounds like the most boring facet of Eve...and then sitting down and watching it for hours on end.

Hum, why not put enough logistics ships in belt ? You can make perma cap-chain each other and repair all the time the miners, that way you dont have to not be afk. Instead of having to deal with highsec problems against gankers.

In the name of Jirai 'Fatal' Laitanen : “Some capsuleers claim that ECM is 'dishonorable' and 'unfair'. Jam those ones first, and kill them last.”

Logi wouldn't work. Either they would get ganked or they just bring one extra cata and gank through the reps. Only thing that works afk would be ecm or smart bombs: both of which if you just got going off randomly will get you concorded when I fly next to you in a rookie ship and lol.

Will gank for food

Eh. There's more to it than the mining ship and the ganking ships.

A hulk with just t2 mods can get 26,000 EHP even if you're fitting omni resists. What do t2 catalysts do? 700 dps? So 12 seconds of DPS to kill the hulk? The cats would fail in .8 or above systems unless concord was spawned off grid... and they might even botch it sometimes in .7.

They always prepull their systems, especially for blingy barges

The problem with protecting miners during mining ops is that its as boring as mining itself. In fact, you don't even get to see ore enter your cargohold, so you could argue that its even more boring than mining.

What would happen if general mining yield were reduced, but locales were sprinkled around new eden (high, low, null, and wh) that were much more rewarding than anything that currently exists? New locations would be fewer in number, home to more dangerous rats, attractive locations for people seeking to kill miners to go, attractive for people who want PVP content without having to roam around looking for it to go?

Would it bring more content for PVPers, while also making mining a less passive activity, while also keeping the mineral market from going totally berserk?

That only works on people who are mostly AFK or who are mining in idiotic locations. I guess that may be most miners though? Heh.
