When you flip the astero upside down it actually looks like a fighter with a cockpit. I can't fly this thing in space now with ought it looking like it's upside down. It bugs me more than it should and I want it to bug you too Evil....

Does not bug me and I did notice, the thing is I fly a ship because I think it is the best option for the task at hand and I simply do not care what they look like. I am sorry that irrelevant things like the appearance of a ship is more important to you than how it performs the required task.

Appearance is far from irrelevant. Please understand it was paramount to the siege of troy and many other examples should you care more than my foregone conclusion to check.

To stir your already boiling pot. Some explorers are unhappy with current site isk rates predominantly or efficiently ran by the astero. I in no way indicate that as my own conclusion nor dismiss it's possibility.

Food for thought though. I'd rather look good while doing bad (Apocalypse?) or look bad while doing good (tengu?). Gone are the days of looking good while doing good (hurricane/lack of question mark because fact).

I'm bald on purpose.

My spaceship takes up about 4 pixels at the center of my screen and so should yours.

What happened to Eve's old motto; Here's a spaceship. Fuck you.

I can't stand being zoomed out that far. My ship must take up exactly 1/3 of the length of the screen.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

My ship takes up 33%-ish of my screen, usually. I'm saving up for an Aestro now, hopefully this will be my biggest issue with it.

Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.

Virtually all of the "facts" we currently have about the Trojan war come from the writings various Greek scholars and poets most notably Homer and all of those were written hundreds of years after the Trojan War supposedly took place. Looking into those writings yields significant discrepancies about the war including how and why it started. These discrepancies and the lack of evidence from the ruins of the city itself lead many historians and scholars to the belief that the Trojan war never really occurred.

Going beyond Troy and looking at the recorded history of the human race the major reasons for war are control of territory, access to resources and religious differences. There is very little if anything in recorded history where a war was started simply because of looks.

Getting back to the topic here and the looks of our pixel space ships, if you would rather do very poorly but look stylish while doing it that is your choice. Personally how I do is the only thing that matters and that means using the best ship for the task at hand and that makes it the most beautiful ship in the game.

I'm a function over form kind of guy. I never actually see my ship unless I'm in station anyway.

I'm bummed to hear that the astero is ruined forever for you. (No I'm not)

I've reached a point in my eve career where style and comic value have become more important than efficiency. Appearance is hugely important to me.

I sometimes fly a Velator fitted with a faction scram to get +3 points on stabbed ships (or ships with inherent warp strengths like ventures). I also know a guy in my area who sometimes bling fit Ibis to get funny solo kills. Admittedly, they are efficient in a way that Velator/Ibis can help you catch other guys off guard, but they are hardly not the best ships for any given task.

'Best ship for the task at hand' often gets boring. Especially when you get to a point where the other guy/gang/fleet will reship to counter what you are flying, so you reship to counter, or call in support to counter their new ships, and they pull back, bring another support to counter you, etc, just chasing around for hours with no real fight.

In scenarios where you engineer a forced fight on the opposition (be it solo or fleet of various sizes), you've usually won the fight before it even began, by the virtue of the fact that you've already assessed them and forced them to commit against the odds you bring to them, in which case, they are so tactically outclassed that often the type of ship you are flying is irrelevant.

Just fly what's fun, and fun does not always equal the most efficient.

BTW, Astero I like as it is, what you described doesn't bother me. :)

I'd suggest you actually read the sources you link.
Quote:
Troy VIIa, which has been dated to the mid-to-late-13th century BC, is the most often cited candidate for the Troy of Homer. Troy VIIa appears to have been destroyed by war.[38] The evidence of fire and slaughter around 1184 BC, which brought Troy VIIa to a close, led to this phase being identified with the city besieged by the Greeks during the Trojan War. This was immortalized in the Iliad written by Homer.[39]

Also, the fact that the epic poem cites a feminine beauty as the cause of the war, doesn't make it so. A King only needs an excuse, and a slight is perfect for that, to conquer a rival kingdom for its resources, location and influence. You said it yourself actually, if there's nothing in recorded human history (or the history of common sense), why would this war be an exception? Even ignoring that, the spoils(γέρας) of war that the heroes receive are a central item in the narrative. This is basic at best.

Finally, in the real world, form and function are entirely interconnected, some would say the same thing. There's a reason steel looks the way it does, there's a reason an aeroplane looks the way it looks. Considering this is a video game and actual physics do not apply, CCP could replace all ships with spheres and nothing would change mechanically, but the game would just become more boring. Besides, a pleasing design serves a function: to please the player. Preaching the supremacy of mechanics doesn't make you cool, or elite, it just shows that you do not appreciate aesthetics, and art in general. CCP works very hard on all parts of their game, their ship design included, and if you see an absolute void in that, it's not in your favor.
