So i found a sample with green dots all over the blue part, and nowhere else. I got it wrong because tons of people selected the option for green everywhere BUT the blue?

Another sample was green dots though the entire thing evenly, but i got it wrong because lots of people selected Nucleus and Nuclear Bodies? really?

All this project is discovering is that Button Mashers cant do science. Hopefully this game becomes reasonable once the idiots give up.

1. Read instructions
2. ???
3. Profit

Ok, I'll admit, it took few images to figure out what you had to do. But then again I might have almost related education...

what do i do..
do i just match the colours to the colours on the screen..
if its look for this kind of picture in a picture its not very helpfull.

where are the newbie to biology instructions and is this like most of eve? where i have to blow up ships to learn how to do cell research biology?

i didnt take microcelluar biology in secondary school and i didnt go to collage..

It sounds like the OP is suggesting that wasting time to read instructions and correctly identify the images results in less profit than spam-clicking things as fast as possible. So CCP may have a problem.

You are matching characteristics found in the image to the left, with characteristics found in the examples provided to the right. Read the text descriptions for each example, and take your time at first until you get a feel for it.

If you can't understand something as simple as this, they probably don't want you taking part anyway.

Kind of like the real world where spamming publications is more important than accurate results. Roll

I've also been frustrated with the results from the unknown samples. There have been several instances today where over 75% of users selected "negative" for images covered in green staining, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I've also found that most users seem to be choosing cytoplasm or nucleus for the majority of images, even if subtler structures are present.

I think we'll have to see how the peer accuracy comparisons work once the user base sheds the people in it for the novelty, but at the moment I'm a bit worried.

OK. I'm thinking there are lots of people playing this game that don't bother looking at all the example pics.

In other news, I'd like to see a sub board put up for this or at least a sticky thread to share thoughts on crazy difficult ones.

I think its sometimes easier to say what it IS CERTAINLY NOT than to say what it IS PRECISELY.... But we only have the option to try to tick what it can be but not to mark what we are sure it is not!

Perhaps most people have only dollar signs in their eyes, rather than actually trying to make an effort to do the work correctly.

I only got as far as the tutorial when I tested it out, but I believe the point is to utilize every aspect of the Discovery system, including the color manipulation, in order to identify the key aspects of the proteins you are looking at for best results.

I'll have more to comment on when I actually do get into the meat of the project, but it appears to be a very interesting project all the same. Sadly, most people will probably be more concerned about the profit they want to make.

In my case, it is a fun new activity to do.

Let's look at an example... (yes, click "example")

On the left side we have the image itself, at the top with all 3 colors visible, at the bottom with blue filtered out.
On the right side we have my answer (nucleoplasma) and the already accepted answer (nuclear specles).

Either I'm terribly wrong... or the majority of voters are.
If I'm wrong I would very much like to hear why.

And it's not the only one... I take 2 to 5 minutes on each picture, checking and rechecking the possible options and refining my choice trying to be certain.... and as a result, my accuracy rating dropped to 47.3%... and it''s still dropping.

Also the payout is laughable. Mining I get500k isk every 3 minutes semi afk. Here I get 50k for burning a lot of attention in the same timespan. As it stands, it's simply not worth the bother. The only incentive to join project discovery at this point, is wanting to help with actual real world research.

What I would like to see is a thread (or even a subforum section) where truly interested players can post pics and ask for clarification to better understand the differences and be able to give better results in the future. And answers should be given only by real researchers (who are behind this), or community members who are marked as knowledgeable by said researchers. but I guess that's just a dream.

Here's the plus side to Discovery: as a person in Null-Sec, I can still make ISK by doing Project Discovery and not run the risk of getting blown to bits and podded by any roamers in the region.

But if the images are being judged from a pool of already-given answers, then it could be a problem for those who go into more detail about what they are looking at compared to those who simply click the 'immediate answer' and then submit. I'd like to see CCP give further information on how the system works specifically.

Having seen few samples, I am surprised how you can get one kind of specles outside red and blue structures and another green structures inside blue structures, simultanously!!! What is happening with some of these cells?

A lot of people are using Cytoplasm (first option) as their go to! I've come across way loads of samples where this has a higher a percentage to the correct answer.

Note that the description for this clearly states, 'Is seen throughout the whole cell, except in the nucleus (blue marker)." But on the samples I've seen that people have chosen this for have CLEARLY had green dots all inside the nucleus (blue marker).

I'm loosing the point of doing this as the results we as a community are giving is garbage!

I'm all up for griefing, corp theft, scamming, awoxing, any other form to ruin someone's game, but (to attempt) to ruin something with real world importance makes me sick.

Luckily a simple solution exists. A timer. Nobody cracks the image under 10 seconds.
