Inconsistencies

I never thought about this until someone pointed it out in another thread.

Why do Gallente Assault Frigates use the Incrusus model over the Tristan model? The Tristan is the highest tier of Gallente Frigate, and for every other race their AFs are based on their corresponding highest tier frigate; Rifter for Minmatar, Merlin for Caldari, Punisher for Amarr.
A while back, I think around the time Electronic Attack Frigates came out, or maybe it was when the Magnate was released, the Helios's Maulus hull was replaced with the Imicus hull. So clearly someone at CCP cares about this consistency.

Because of turrets or did you want mixed weapon assault frigs?

Merlin and Harpy/Hawk negates this arguement.

Someone has apparently not noticed that each race has TWO tier 3 frigates.

The Incursus is Tier 3, just like the Tristan. I see no problem here.

On that note, the Kestrel, Breacher, and Inquisitor are also Tier 3.

Incursus: 8 Module Slots
Breacher: 8 Module Slots
Kestrel: 9 Module Slots
Inquisitor: 9 Module Slots

Tristan: 10 Module Slots
Rifter: 10 Module Slots
Merlin: 10 Module Slots
Punisher: 10 Module Slots

There's a definite disconnect between these two sets of frigates.

Module slots are not everything, sir. The incursus is more popular than the tristan in pvp, by far, due to having a third bonused turret, vs the tristan's two unbonused launcher slots. The kestrel is also nice, having four bonused launchers....and a 10% per level bonus, at that.

Breacher and Inquisitor do need some love, though. Sad

Tristan is the only Gallente frigg with multiple missles points so It kind of had to be the SB.

I wanted to paint my space ship red, but I couldn't find enough goats.

As far as ships usefulness in practice, this is true, but ships are typically tiered by module slots available. This is true for all Tech 1 ships from Frigate to Battleships. Of course, just because the Hyperion has more slots than the Megathron doesn't make it better, but the same is true in many cases as you have pointed out. (The only place is really firmly holds true is that all Tier 2 BCs are pretty undeniably better than Tier 1 BCs, however Tier 3 BCs are pretty specialized and thus don't really fit into this rule; nor do they fit into CCP's normal "tier" system.)
ANYWHO. The point is. Tristan, Rifter, Harpy, and Punisher are undeniably in a group together, whether it be tier 3 frigates or tier 4 frigates or tier 3.5 frigates or what have you. The Assault Frigates for every race except Gallente follow this pattern.

The Incursus is short slots due to its drone bay, I reckon. (The other tier3 combat frigs lack one.)

Even though the Incursus, breacher, kestren and inquisitor all require frigate lvl 3 I wouldn't call them tier 3 frigates, I like to see it as atron = tier 1, incursus = tier 2 and tristan = tier 3, by looking at slots, pg and cpu and not just the skill reqs.
or the tristan is actually tier 4 but CCP decided not to increase the prerequisites for it for some reason.
