Is there a way to preview ship equipment and see how it will effect the stats of a ship before buying? Basically I want to equip different items on my ship and see how it effects my ship capacitor.

google EFT (eve fitting tool) or pyfa. Both are good. EVE HQ is cool as well,

This will allow you to fit any ship your desire without having to spend any in-game currency.

It is free to install and does not have any ads inside of it.

WARNING: take any of the stats you build within EFT with a grain of salt. Stats, like skills, only help so much. You have to take application and tactics into account when building a fit... and this requires a bit of "hands-on" experience when faced with certain situations.

Take it from experience: the best way to learn how to properly build a fit for any scenario is to go out and try... even if you have no idea what you are doing. Through trial and error, you learn what works and what doesn't. And with advice from more experienced pilots you can hone in what works and doesn't.

The whole game is built on process. The more intricacies you learn, the better you can tune your ship.


NOTE: you can also upload your character's skills in to EFT.
View > Character > API Skill Import (one of the buttons on the right side) > and go through the process that is needed

NOTE: an API key only allows people (and programs) to view your character's stats (however much you desire). It only grants "read only" access and does not allow other players to take control of your account.

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Right click > show info.

Every item has stats explained, now you just have to calculate it

This question has been answered so well so far that there is not much that I can add to this.

What I can think of to add however is that EFT is more powerful than most people that use it are aware. The Eve Uni wiki has some decent info on EFT and there are various guides and videos out there on it. You can do things with it like put in damage profiles so that you know how your tank will do against specific NPC races or specific weapon types. You can do projected effects so you can see what your stats would be with a booster or versus various ewar types. You can Enter specific opponents and make a dps graph based on situational information.

You can also change the skills of your character to see how it affects your ship's performance. Combined with Evemon it can help you better plan your skill queue as you an export and import characters back and forth from the two. You can also take fits from EFT and import them to Evemon to come up with skill plans to fly that specific fit.

ShahFluffer's post was really awesome and with the info that you've been given here you should be ready to go take your lumps and become an experienced pilot in no time.

One further note that I make to all players that come here to ask questions like this. We are more than happy to answer your questions here on the forums however it is much better for you if you have friends in game that you can ask these questions of and get answers back in real time and have back and forth question and answer sessions. If you are trying to "go it alone" and wait until you get "good enough" before joining up with other players, I just want to caution that is a habit from other MMOs with level caps. In eve you can be productive from day 1 and there is no equivalent to a level cap in this game.

So reach out to other players in game early. Make friends, talk in local, maybe join some public chat channels, maybe join a corp. You can check the recruitment UI and/or the recruitment thread on the forum and find a few corps that claim to be new player friendly and sit in their public chat channels and ask questions. That way when you find a good one you can join up with them.

If you're worried about the cost of trying potential fits in a "live" environment, there is a test server where pretty much everything on the market is available for 100isk. The caveat is that the test server is only updated periodically so new players may not be able to log on to it immediately.

You should be able to access it from the standard game launcher, I haven't used it in a while so I'll leave the how for someone else to cover.

This is good advice. You can request to have your character "mirrored" on to SiSi. I forget the process but the info is all there if you are so interested.

Um...sure it's fine. But if you only have one platform, you don't need it to be cross-platform. And the other programs are also free. EFT also tends to be updated a bit quicker on patch days. There are much better reasons for picking one or the other than the ones you list (mostly personal preference).

If you do choose EFT, go for the "alternative mirror" download link. The main one is rather sketchy in my opinion.

Yeah, cause it really matters that it is cross platform when you use 1 system at home. It's a major drawback that something can't work on anything other then "insert name of OS you use at home".

p.s.

EFT, pyfa, EVEHQ are all freeware.

So, any and all points you point that makes it superious are invalid. Your personal opinion is that you like it more then the others, that doesn't make it superiour
