I'd rather be a pirate than cancer, Mizhara. And I don't mean that personally, I mean that our work funnels credits to our employers, provides solutions to problems for our clients and this can be directly compared to the bitter harvest that is all the TLF and it's allied corporations has ever brought the Tribes.

I've been a hero and I've had to step outside of the conventions that label brings to achieve every single one of the good acts that I hope offsets the death and loss I've also brought.

It's simply a matter of honesty. We have little to no impact dirtside, other than what we can funnel through back-channels and other non-sanctioned means. This means of course that the proxy wars are little but bloodsport for money and personal gratification. However, there is one thing we can affect.

We are, for all intents and purposes, popular culture icons. In some of our cases literally rock stars.

All the LP, the isk, the looted modules and all that nonsense is largely worthless from this perspective. Our "jobs" if we are loyal to our nations is to be examples and inspirations. Something to aspire to. Symbols that can be pointed to. It's why I've never given two ***** about who holds the warzone and what comes of the fights we get in that pendulum process. My job isn't to win the warzone at the cost of principles and heritage. My job is to act and fly as a Matari, always maintaining the highest adherence to the values and strengths of my people and culture.

I don't fly with Sansha, Blooders and other such creatures, because it gains me absolutely nothing of worth in my pursuit of my objective. It might have won me more fights or avoided me some losses, gaining more personal wealth or assets in the process, but it would have completely shredded my actual objective and job.

So I stay honest. I admit that every killmark added to my hulls and blood turned to red ice in the vacuum of space does nothing but sate bloodlust and earn a little combat credit. It does nothing practical for or against my people. It is bloodsport. No isk gets 'funneled to employers' or 'providing solutions for our clients' or any of the other lies you tell yourself. All I do is set an example, at the cost of a lot of lives.

I wonder what example you set with the dishonesty and pretense? The only credits going anywhere is into the capsuleers of your corporation, or the trade hubs you spend them in.

Basically, Elmund. It's a particularly sick joke that the Empires made us what we are and then didn't have any sort of a good use for us. It frankly beggars belief that they would make me rich, deadly and bored at the very same time that they removed all consequences from my actions. A terrible combination.

They didn't remove consequences for your actions. You choose not to willingly face them. You aren't a mindless automaton, you have your own will and the freedom to choose what to adhere to and what to not adhere to. If you don't face the consequences of your actions it is because you choose not to. That is no fault of anyone but yourself.

It is indeed a sick joke, but it doesn't say much about the Empires as much as about the mindset of capsuleers. Of us, you and me. Some of us take up the responsibilities commensurate with our position and status, some of us choose to disregard them then lament that we aren't forced to take them up.

That's the part of the joke I always laugh at with genuine pleasure. With such freedom, none of us have anyone but ourselves to blame for anything we do. No one can force us to perform acts of evil or violence. It's all on our conscience, even if so many choose to pretend otherwise.

You spin me a candy-sugar artifice that is completely unfalsifiable and claim that I'm the one being decietful? Personally I think you're as mad as the rest of them, Miz, and I'll never understand why you feel the need to justify your taste for blood with all this false justification.

Do you know what makes one a Rock star? Brand Management. Trust me, I've modelled the underwear, posed for the posters and starred in the recruitment films. I know the difference between respect for an actual achievement and the idolisation of the moment. The interesting thing about fame versus real reputation is that I don't have to market the actual achievements that I'm proud of - everyone remembers those and when enough time has passed that my people gain cultural perspective on this period, the few lines I'll warrant in history will still be about those actions, even if I never mention them again until the day I die.

For now I'm going through an honest period. I see no intrinsic value in Militia work. Killing is my 9-5 job and I do that where the Corporation tells me I can reap the best return on investment for Kaalakiota. I doubt my life as a pilot will return a tenth of the value that my charitable hobbies do - and the fact that I can afford to blow the budget of a decent sized metropolis or a small orbital on hobbies gives lie to your claim that we're the crazy ones.

But hey, whatever keeps your toes warm whilst YOU'RE killing baseliners, Miz.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

What part is unfalsifiable? I can provide the trail of every ISK and LP made, and none of it goes to the TLF or any other corporation, just like yours will. KK isn't getting a single ISK from you or your corporation. I also say flat out that what I get from a fight is a small sating of bloodlust and combat credit, but I guess it's easier to ignore that and claim something else when you're desperately deflecting away from your choices in New Eden.

Ah well, it's no skin off my nose if you choose to pretend you're anything but a pirate with no loyalties to anything but yourself and your capsuleer friends. It's just another sick joke to see the desperate pretense.
