Option to Turn Off Nebulae

Having the option to turn on/off nebulae and leaving black space with stars should be an option for players. Here's some reason I believe it should be implemented.

1. The "darker" current nebulae give an awesome contrast to the other effects (trails, damage, turret effects) and have a darker contrast improves the look of Eve graphics and effects. An example is why plasma screens give out richer colors because it has the ability to show blacker/darker colors. Just google high contrast vs low contrast and see for yourself.

2. The performance will increase but that is not the main reason because I and many others can run eve on max settings with no problems but others may struggle with performance. So having an option will give players the ability to increase performance.

3. Eve will get a grittier feeling with black/darker space instead of the cotton candy lava lamp that we have now. Sci fi movies that I love and think relate with the Eve universe (Alien series, Pitch Black series, Event Horizon) all have darker or nearly pitch black space.

4. Also the ability to see modules without spinning to find a dark place on the screen.

Remember, I want an option to turn off nebulae, I don't want to get rid of it completely. Also if it is too much work to do and takes away from patches and bug fixes then don't bother, but if it can be easily done the pleaseeee do so. Thank you

I like this idea mostly for your reasons outlined in your second bullet point. I used to run Eve on a laptop that wasn't exactly "high end", and I often encountered very strange visual effects due to my computer not being able to handle some of the visual features, even on the lowest settings. What frequently happened was the background would simply fail to load. No nebulae, no stars, **** like that. Instead what I would see was a giant cube inside of which the Eve universe exists. Had all kinds of weird circles and squares and other shapes. It looked like I was inside of a giant Forerunner box (for those of you who are familiar with Halo). I think the ability to turn off some of the more complex visual features would help with issues like that.

That's a good point about laptop users, usually they need every break they can get.

i just installed the new launcher/reinstalled eve, and when i undocked i got to see how beautiful eve looks without the nebulas... for about 30 seconds before the bright ugly smears appeared and then i was back to moving my camera to face the dark part of the sky again.

Please make this an option. The nebulas look nice for a while but i prefer the darkness of space.

I'll +1 this.

Bright nebulas and suns just make it hard to figure out what is going on at times.

Bright nebulae and suns have a tendency to cause me to zoom out when I'd rather be zoomed in, enjoying the fight..

Or even better +1000

My BIGGEST gripe about EVE graphics. Constantly having to look away from overly bright things.

I mean since we are in the future, surely they have developed a lense capable of filtering certain light or gas clouds or particles

nebula is something i cant help but think about everytime i play or watch twitch. It has a powerful presence and is a big deal.

Give us blackness darkness of space, that would be the dream.

Well, at least I can agree that doing stuff somewhere Kor-Azor / Khanid space can get annoying if that stuff involves watching module cycles.

EvE is a dark, dystopic game by design. The environment should reflect the setting, help set the mood as it is.

Maybe fewer carebears would keep trying to turn EvE into cotton candy wonderland if the game didn't look like a cotton candy wonderland.

in the recent youtube trailer "citadel feature tour", the backgrounds look much more natural: a pitch-black background with tons of stars. It looks pretty damned cool... so why doesn't the actual game look like that?

Maybe implement a slider that controls nebula brightness and density where one end is black space and the other is current nebula setting?

I cannot agree with this more. Eve is beautiful, but it's own beauty often becomes a curse. A slider like I saw suggested would be ideal, but a simple toggle would suffice all the same.

Would be cool but maybe better is to instead of turning them off let's have option to replace them into "only stars" nebula (all black with tiny stars all over.

Btw Eve nebulas especially in gallente high sec are bad... too bright, too much everything, they dont feel like space, rather some fancy novel...

Also they need to be changed into HD textures, especially with that new field of view option
