"Socket closed"

I have been experiencing sudden disconnections to the game, dropping out with 2 pop up boxes stating "socket closed"

Close game window, close launcher, re-start launcher and its just blank white screen.

After waiting for a few minutes I can log in again, but within like 10 mins the line drops again.

Anyone else experiencing the same issues that I have?

No one method is the right method, nor the wrong method.

Socket Closure

As long as the tale of the hunt is told by the hunter, and not the lion, it will favor the hunter.

Socket closeds not experienced by a large chunk of players simultaneously are usually due to an issue with your local setup, your ISP or one of the many networks between your ISP and CCP and it can be different for each person having issues. Eve can be sensitive to packet loss on the route between you so the way to solve it is to work out where the problem is.

Where in the world are you and who is your ISP?

Are you connected by WiFi or a wired connection?

Does anything else stop working when Eve socket closeds?

What does a tracert to client.eveonline.com show? What does it show when you get a socket closed? A program called Pingplotter can automate this a little and give you a good insight into where the problem is.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm located in Singapore and I never had problems before prior and it was stable throughout the past months I've been playing.

Anyway, I done some traceroute and currently using another program (WTFast) to stabilize the connection. Ping Test and connection tests show that I'm fine.

I realized the disconnection occurs when I'm idle for too long in Eve, or when I double click too many times or proceed with too many commands at the same time. (Double click on wreck to get loot multiple times and pressing shift R to recall drones always seem to d/c me lol)

I'd see how it goes. Thanks though. :)

Unless you have a diagnostic constantly going during a disconnect event, a ping test is unlikely to diagnose an intermittent problem like this. Pingplotter (and similar apps) continually ping each hop in your route to a specified destination and can help track down where the issue is.

I have this now a lot and it is specific to a character, not an account. Leave my main in space - currently in Wicked Creek - and i disconnect every 30 minutes or so. Leave a secondary toon in space in jita on the same account and the connection is still good after a night in bed.

Leave my second account logged in and no issues what so ever. And this is across multiple OS / machines

No way that is connected to my isp as far as i am concerned

Use the Force, Luke

By 'Force', I of course mean a VPN - which I have used to great success when my client was crippled by Socket Closures a couple of months ago.

I seem to be having similar troubles today. My second account hasn't had a single socket closure but my main has had 2 in 20 minutes and just now took about 2-3 minutes just to get past the "authenticating" stage of trying to log back on.

But have you got any actual diagnostics to show that? A screenshot of Pingplotter to client.eveonline.com while you are having issue and while you are not would go some way to actually demonstrating that there is no issue between you and Tranquility.

I agree that it occurring on a single character is interesting but without some sort of data, it is just an unsubstantiated coincidence.

Check for, and disable any proxy.

Probably the #1 cause of EVE problems is stupid proxies installed by malware or "firewall" products.

Lots of good information in here, but I'd direct you to the Issues, Workarounds, and Localization board for more information on this. I am going to lock this because if I move it to the aforementioned board it'll be redundant.
