Smack talk is part of the game. Looks like the "Tora the Explorer" pic hit a nerve Lol

But seriously, if smack talk were to dissappear, many would quit as it's the only thing they know how to do well Blink

Back when can flipping was a thing, smacktalk skill was really important. You had to convince your target to fight you... But you had to make it fun so he would do it again next week.

It was real art. I loved it.

It was a sophisticated psychological game.

Most of what I see on the forums is very low grade smack.

On the macro level, though, I think players benefit from the added content of someone smacking in local. It entertains bored miners and mission runners, inspires unusual activity, and makes it seem like stuff is happening.

Always thought it kinda a class thing. Like how mike tyson used to tell his opponents at pre match interviews he was going to eat them. Some guys from the ghetto like him would be intimitdated and he would have an advantage. Other guys would just look at him and be like "what?". You saw the same stuff when tyson fury fought that ukrainian guy last year. The pre match interview was hilarious as klitschko was just looking at him thinking "what are you doing?"

In game smack talk has always been like that for me. Sometimes funny and makes me laugh, sometimes racist and I report and block and the rest of the time I ignore it. Doesn't have much effect on me and not something I was ever into.

Imagine a C&P forum or local chat where people wont smack talk each other. Would you be more or less happy and why ? Smack talk creates conflicts aka Eve content, but to much might be annoying. Where is the fine line between them ?

I'm curious how people think about these things, as you have alliances like Public Enemy who hardly ever smack talk to people and others like me or CODE. who might do it to much sometimes.

Idiot level 5 complete.

Biomass yourself purely on the grounds that you're too sensitive to play this game. You whine to the isd's on these forums on a painfully regular basis as well as gm's in game when things aren't going your way. Other people smack, you whine like a child.

Everyone knows High Sec smack talk isn't real smack talk.

The best small gang smack talk happens in Low Sec.

Smack talk is a great source of research material into the subject of autism and how pervasive it is.

Ok, I think I can change a little of the existing smacktalk paradigm here.

Bad smacktalk: you are a (insert something bad here).

Good smacktalk (I'm omitting all the piracy stuff since piracy is dead):

If you are outside in your rep boat innocently repping both sides of a disagreement to screw up their fight: "I'm here for for your safety. I represent the neighborhood watch" or "I represent a local trading firm that is attempting to reduce ore prices, please refrain from the destruction of ships within this market area".

If they won't undock: create a book mark named "serviceable testicles" and drag it into your cargo hold. Dock up and open trade with your target. Offer him or her that bookmark ... To be helpful.

If your war targets are mad at you for declaring war on them: Act like you think they declared war on you. Demand they drop the wardec. When they get confused, ram it home with some anti-piracy/griefer rants. (I have actually had war targets apologize to me before).

If a wardec aggressor demands ransom: accept the number, tell them how much you appreciate their business, and tell them you will drop the dec as soon as they flash it to your wallet. When they clarify which way they want them money to go, confuse the issue with extraneous issues.

Demand your ransom paid in hookers and booze (or fedo's).

Things that almost always fit in the smacktalk conversation (said to the enemy):
1) hey, my leadership skills suck. Can I join your fleet for bonuses?
2) can you guys spot me some faction ammo?
3) do you guys know anything about planetary interaction?
4) any reference to WOW or mining scrotumite

1 Quart of strawman smacktalk

the strawman is the toughest part, to be a good merc u need all 5 ingredients.

Smack talk is all part of the meta. I admit I enjoy a good trolling in local sometimes. Though there IS a line. Eve just wouldn't be the same without a little smack here and there. If you can't handle some smack or trolling..either htfu or exercise your ability to use the block button. Blink
Well, thats another thing I was curious about. Do people use that block button a lot, because they hate smacktalk or want to protect themselves of saying EULA breaking things.

I think for some it's a little bit from column A and a little bit from column B. Blink

I keep seeing people say, "There is a line." If there is one I haven't seen it yet. I've been playing this game for a little under 2 months and in that time I've been appalled at the "smack talk" that happens in this game. There is no line, not in combat, not in your attitude toward other players, not in smack talk. <--- That's not my view, it's the view of the folks in the game who think "smack talk is healthy" unless they don't happen to like what's coming across their monitor. Your line is not someone else's line.

By the way, I'm not a fan of smack talk. It's a way of boosting your own ego. Some people use it as a tool to gather intel on other players before they fight them/before they gank them with a blob of plebs and say "gf" in local. Ultimately, in my view, smack talk is the tool of the of folks who lack real confidence and conviction in what they're doing. If you have that you don't need to smack talk.

Very well put, and you never get a gf out of a fail gank blob, to busy working out who to ban from the Goons for the fail maybe
