On Grid Boosting

I am curious to know if they will make command battleships if the boosting is put on grid, for I don't think a battlecruiser class ship could withstand the damage for too long. Was there anything stated on this or can a beautiful blue tag person respond?

You can find a quote from CCP Fozzie in the recently released CSM minutes where he says that the plan has not changed. Links are still going on grid but no date yet.

Well, some of CSs can withstand some serious beating...

i think you should probably try flying one before making a statement like that because you couldn't be farther from the truth.
command ships are pretty damn scary if you fit them for anything that isnt off grid boosting.

infact the only reason you dont see doctrine fits for them allover the place is their prohibitive training requirements

Now that grid is at least 7,800Km across, there is simply no excuse for links not being on grid.

Lots of room for them to run away and hide from the enemy.

That aren't actually very prohibitive.
The bigger reason you don't see them is because we are playing frigates & cruisers online because of mobility issues for BC's & BS, and the larger EHP doesn't make up for that mobility when cruisers project nearly the same firepower, have vastly greater resistance to bombs and can get around from A to B far faster for just a small EHP difference.

But yes, when links go on grid CS will be fine. Since you won't be restricted to just a single CS boosting your fleet anymore, so they won't be such obvious targets since you can have 10 or 20 all giving boosts, so you have significant redundancy. Assuming they follow current plans.

they are fairly prohibitive if you haven't grandfathered the skills nor trained as a booster.
my alt can fly the Armour ones but my main (this character) still has an 80 day train for them.

definitely not going to dispute the mobility issues though, they are damn painfull to fly anything more than a couple of jumps

I can fly all races of command ships and do, but there are situations I can foresee them to be very inadequate on grid.

Command ships can be vary tanky, with certain ships (looking at you damnation) getting rediculous amounts of tank.

With alpa strikes always being an issue, there's not much that can be done to counter it without breaking it.

Itll be interesting to see how different groups try to use them. Redundant boosts, using multiple T1, kiting command Dessie's, etc.

Nothing boosts my confidence as much as being referred to a quote by Fozzie.
I live for enduring the logical downward spiral of CCP's hiring practices.

Links are not just being brought "on grid", so abandon all hope of sitting 7000KM away from the actual fight with your link ship (which would only be about 3% less lame than OGB).

Range-limited AOE effects, possibly in the form of a bubble-probe type thing that is dropped in place, is the plan last they spoke of it.

We are running a BC doctrine so up-shipping to command ship would be possible without crippling our mobility. Mobility is not the only possible issue why people don't fleet them up.

I wonder if the sphere of effect will be displayed and how it will look. Especially if bubbles are also involve. I hope if's not too much of a clusterfuck to look at.

I can't stand the current range sphere. I wish there was an option to just have the range circles.

:) I would be honoured! I'm usually so safe at the bottom of the alphabet.

I've had an alt in there for a while and the casual style fits well at the moment.

Once I saw a command ship fit for pure bricktank repeatedly survive a full Alpha Mael fleet's volleys for a good 15-20 minutes, on and off focusing it during the fight. Whenever their logi started topping it off we'd go back to regular targets and then swap back to it later. Eventually he popped, but he was a frequent primary and was alive more than half the battle.

I think they'll be fine.

Good, they aren't supposed to be. That's the whole point of this change.
